CIRCOVAC benefits on reproductive parameters
Thaïs VILA, DVMMERIAL – Swine Technical Director EMEA
Context
• A lot of field experiences published evidenced the benefits of PCV2 sow vaccination on reproductive parameters
Farm A B C
Nb sows 250 80 146
Nb vaccinated sows 89 32 41
Nb control sows 46 21 39
Material and method
• Good Clinical Practice• Blinded, controlled, randomised trial• 3 farrow to finish German farms
Material and method
• 3 farrow to finish German farms• PCVD confirmed
– Mortality wean to finish: 10% – Lesions at necropsy– Serologies PCV2 – Histopathological lesions on lymph nodes
Material and method
• CIRCOVAC vaccination (2 ml/dose)– 2 injections before the 1st farrowing
• V1: 5-6 weeks before farrowing 1• V2: 2-3 weeks before farrowing 1
– 1 booster vaccination • 2-3 weeks before 2nd farrowing
Results
Global mortality in offsprings
Vaccinated group: 8.7%Control group: 9.5%
Mortality related to PMWSLesion score at necropsyPCRInguinal lymph nodes lesions
Low incidence of PCV2 infection (similar between groups)
Serology and viremia in sows and offsprings
Increase of serum antibodies level in sows, gilts and offspring provided by vaccination

Conclusion
• Comparative, controlled, randomised trial
• 370 farrowings• Significant improvement
+ 1.6 weaned piglets / sow / year
• Confirms proof from the field
CIRCOVAC benefits at all stages
