When I was akid in gradeschool I wasprivileged tohave Mrs. Enzas my musicteacher atOrvis Risner. Many of you

in this church remember Vera Enz fondly. She was passionate about music andhelped this church to have a rich historyof fine music.

She felt that music needed to beshared. She was influential to so many inour church family. Garry Dowell was apupil of hersshe taught him to play the

organ. Wisely, she knew that the skill ofplaying the organ in our modern worldwas disappearing, so she pulled youngGarry out and greatly encouraged him

to become the wonderful musician he istoday. Thank you, Vera.

When I had her in class she wasalways encouraging us to make a joyfulnoise. One time we were to try out for aspecial performance at school. She askedfor volunteers. No one raised their hand. After a few minutes of silence, I steppedforward and in a shaky voice sang thesong. After I finished, she said, Chris getsthe part! He had the courage to try! Imnot sure if I got the part because I wasgood or because I had courage, but eitherway I left full of music in my heart.

The rich history of wonderful musiccontinues at FCC. Diane Ball and themusic ministry are doing wonderful work

to bring joyful noises to our worship ser-vices. For instance, on Easter Sunday wewill have an incredible cantata sung byour choir and accompanied by an orches-

tra. If you have never heard this before our church, you wont want to miss it!

And, as always, our Praise bandcontinues to bring uplifting and creativemusic to our contemporary worship. Itnever fails that when visitors hear themfor the first time, they comment on howwonderful the music is!

The talent also flows out from ourchurch. I was lucky enough to go theOKC Thunder game last Sunday andhear Alyssa Danley sing the NationalAnthem. Not only was she great, but tohave the composure to stand in front of18,000 people and sing a difficult songa cappella, well, lets just say its a raretalent. Great job, Alyssa!

As we worship together I want toremind you to feel the presence of theSpirit in our inspirational music. Its oneof the ways we feel Gods presence and

Elders Extend Invitation to Participate In Prayer VigilHe went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Matthew 14:23

Seeking solitude was an important priority for Jesus. He made room in His busy schedule to bealone with His Father. Spending time with God in prayer nurtures a vital relationship and equips uto meet lifes challenges and struggles.

The Elders of First Christian invite you to take part in one of the most important traditions wecelebrate each yearour Annual Easter Prayer Vigil. As we remember the crucifixion, death andresurrection of our Lord this Easter season, we offer the significant opportunity for families andindividuals to take part in our Easter Prayer Vigil.

The youth of our Student Ministries begin our Prayer Vigil at 6pm on Good Friday and it con-tinues with individuals or families praying through 6:00am on Easter Sunday morning. This is youopportunity to pray for our congregation and community during the hours leading up to Easter

morning. You may select a time and sign up on our Prayer Vigil sign-up board in the Rotunda. Times begin at 7pm Good FridayApril 6, and conclude at 6 a.m. Easter Sunday morning, April 8.

We invite you to join other members of our family of faith as we continue the legacy of praying begun long ago by our SavioSpend quiet moments with God in the peacefulness of our Chapelcome and pray.

Do you or a loved one need prayer? Please share your prayer concerns with us.

To feed my sheep means to trustGod and to equip the church to cel-ebrate and promote Gods mission inthe world. Leading the church, caringfor its needs, feeding Jesuss sheep,is grounded in the churchs most basiccalling and work: to live a life of faithin God, to trust in Gods abundance

and not surrender to the fear of not having enough, to use Gods gifts wisely, to sharethem generously, to proclaim the gospel to a hurting world, and, at the table, to cel-ebrate together the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

The General Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) feed the sheepof Jesus by helping congregations use financial resources and facilities wisely and faith-fully, by helping them plan for the future, by helping feed, clothe, heal, house, repair, train, educate, and create self-sustaining work for people in need, by providing securepensions for church workers and quality health care, by promoting reconciliation in aworld divided by racism and ethnic conflict, by providing emergency assistance in timesof disaster, by educating leaders and ensuring that military troops have spiritual care, byhelping new churches start and existing churches transform for mission, by supportingpartners around the world as together we bring the healing touch of Christ to a hurtingworld.

In all of these ways, through our regular and special offerings to Disciples MissionFund, we love Christ by feeding his sheep. Join us Sunday, April 8 as we support theEaster Offering. For in this work, we meet Jesus, who is not dead but is risen indeed!
