Police are investigating a crash which has left a young pedestrian in hospital after she was hit by an oncoming car. The seven-year-old girl from the Bay of Plenty was delivering pamphlets with her grandmother on the northern footpath of Whitmore Street in Kihikihi about 11am Monday when a car heading towards State Highway 3 crossed the centreline, drove up the foot- path, hit the girl then smashed a power pole. The victim suffered a broken femur and head lacer- ations and was transported to Waikato Hospital. The male driver was not seriously injured. The impact with the power pole was such that it caused a surge back along the lines causing them to clash near Ohaupo Road in Te Awamutu. This took out feeders sup- plying the Kihikihi, eastern Te Awamutu Parawera and Puahue areas. It took between one hour and four hours to restore power. Traffic survey project points way The largest ever traffic survey in the Waikato has been completed with more than 47,000 drivers sur- veyed at various sites around the region, including several in Te Awamutu area, during February and March. The surveys involved 17,000 roadside interviews at 12 state highways sites and 30,000 postal surveys sent out to people who crossed the six bridges in Hamilton City. Some 12,200 responses were received from the postal survey representing a very healthy 40% response rate. ‘‘We’d like to thank Waikato motorists and drivers from other areas who co-operated patiently with the roadside surveys, and those who took the time to post us information,’’ says the surveys pro- ject manager James Bevan. ‘‘Congratulations to Colin Young who was the winner of the $500 cash prize draw. His vehicle was snapped crossing one of the Hamilton City bridges and he returned his survey form very promptly,’’ Mr Bevan says. ‘‘We’ll now be carefully analys- ing the information gathered to build a picture of travel patterns within and through the Waikato. This will help determine how $4.4 billion worth of transport funds will be invested in the region over the next decade. ‘‘The information gathered is of both national and regional signific- ance, given the very high traffic volumes that flow through and within the Waikato.’’ The survey has so far involved: roadside interviews with motorists at the twelve sites. videoing of licence plates of vehicles passing six of Hamil- tons bridges at different times over one day, with follow-up survey forms sent to drivers homes. This data collection will be followed by a household interview survey involving 2000 households next month, and interviews with public transport users later in the year. Data gathered will help support the delivery of major state highway projects, assist local councils and Transit New Zealand to manage their existing infrastructure, and in the planning of public transport in and around Hamilton City. The Waikato region is part of a growth triangle that includes Auckland and Bay of Plenty, and is a powerhouse of population and economic growth in the North Island. Over half of the nation’s road and rail freight is in this triangle so the region needs a very clear picture of vehicle movements to help set priorities, said Mr Bevan. The survey project is being led by Environment Waikato, Transit New Zealand and Hamilton City Council with contributions from the Waikato, Waipa, Matamata- Piako, Taupo and Thames Coro- mandel district Councils. Land Transport NZ is supporting this project, with over 70% of the project costs coming from central Government.

Te Awamutu left out in coldCongratulations to the Wai-

kato Times on a fine publication‘V8 Supercars’ free in our paperand in full colour.

But what a disappointmenton page 61 under the heading‘Just a short drive away’ write-ups and colour photos of Mata-mata, Cambridge, Tirau andRaglan but not a word on TeAwamutu.

Why weren’t our InformationCentre or any public relationspeople able to provide informa-tion about Te Awamutu. We allknew this insert was beingprinted.

I, as well as many Te Awa-mutu residents are very disap-pointed.

C’mon Te Awamutu.CHRIS FIRTH

Editor’s note: Mr Firth, thefollowing response was provided:

Te Awamutu InformationCentre did originally book spacefor the Times supplement to takeadvantage of the V8 action. How-ever, for this year, like a numberof other i-Sites, we decided to takea wait and see approach to thisevent due to the type of event thatit was.

No doubt next year we will beparticipating in V8 promotion, having made special provision in

our budget for this cost.i-Site Te Awamutu has a

limited annual budget for market-ing and with year-round commit-ments for promotion expenditurealready made for the next 12months we were not well placed toparticipate in this unanticipatedand quite recent supplementinitiative.

Given our very limiting finan-cial resources, each event needsto be carefully considered separ-ately and advertising and moniesallocated accordingly. We wouldlove to advertise in every mediapossible, regrettably this cannotbe so.

Promotion of Te Awamutu ismuch more than events based, itinvolves being pro-active for 52weeks of the year, and includesmany activities as well as thevery expensive publication ofmarketing collateral that is distri-buted nationally and inter-nationally.

We are already focussing onWorld Cup Rugby and World CupRowing. These will provide uswith huge numbers of visitors, both international and domestic.

Presently we are working onthe development of a regionalstrategy for promotion of our areaboth with a local Waipa and also

with a Waikato Tourism Group. This project will promote tourismfor our region in many significantways, and also encourage moreemployment opportunities in thetourism industry.

While Hamilton City is focuss-ing on event based promotion oftheir city, they do want to dis-tance themselves from the Wai-kato (grass roots) image. We dostand to benefit from the eventsthat they hold, but we also wish toretain our Waikato brand name.

Waikato a strong brand; ourbrand equity has been built upover many years and is alreadyrecognised overseas, throughWaikato Chiefs, WaikatoDraught, and Balloons Over Wai-kato etc.

i-Site Te Awamutu is veryproud of what we have to offer inTe Awamutu. Given that we arelargely Council funded and have adedicated number of unpaid vol-unteers we believe we can berightly proud of what we achievefor our district.

In a recent survey of NorthIsland i-Sites we ranked veryhighly in all key dimensions.Welldone Hamilton the V8s weregreat.

Pizza delivery payment paltryIt has come to my attention

that the young man working forthe local pizza company whodelivers my pizza is only beingpaid $1.50 of the $6 that I ampaying for him to deliver mypizza.

He tells me that he pays for allthe running costs of his car, petrol, warrant, registration, car

insurance and the company paysnothing except the $1.50 per deliv-ery and they keep the $4.50change.

Out of the $1.50 they deductdelivery insurance so he actuallyonly ends up with $1.36. Some ofthese deliveries are as far asTokanui (don’t they no the priceof petrol). He also had to pay $60

for the hat and T-shirt he has towear, which they deduct out of hisfirst three weeks pay. Somehowthis doesn’t sit right with me.

No wonder all the deliverystaff are school children. It’s a sadday when big business takesadvantage of our young people.Give them a break.

Moppett the short-faced chihuahua wentin a stroller, two nine week old corgi pupswere carried most of the way and several dogs‘dressed’ for the event.

But most dogs simply enjoyed a rompthrough the park on a beautiful Autumn dayfor the first ‘Million Paws Walk’ in TeAwamutu.

Around 45 dogs accompanied by over 60people took part in the event which benefittedthe local SPCA.

The walk concept was launched in Aus-tralia in 1994, but has only been staged in NewZealand for the past two years. This year fourcentres took part.

In Te Awamutu the 3km circuit took inPioneer Walk and several local streets, with awater stop on Racecourse Road. Owners andtheir dogs then returned to Selwyn Parkwhere there were displays, raffles, a sausagesizzle, snacks and an agility course.

All registered entrants received a goodiebag at the start of the walk and a spot prize atthe end thanks to the generosity of eventsponsor Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

SPCA spokesperson Dianne Gray saysthey were very happy with the support for theday.

‘‘Entry fees and donations raised around$500 and everyone seemed to enjoy them-selves.

‘‘Thanks to everyone who attended, thesponsors and to all the volunteers who helpedstage this event.

‘‘A big thankyou to McFall’s staff whowere great on the roads helping with cross-ings and safety in general.

‘We plan to do this on an annual basis now,so hopefully more people and their pets willjoin us next year.’’

Bird’s eye view of ‘her world’

TC220408SP17MARION LEWIN prepares for her flight over the Waikato with Waikato AeroClub charter pilot Dr Tony Petch.

TC220408SP16SEVEN Wonders’ winner Marion Lewin and son Peter at Waikato AeroClub awaiting their scenic flight.

Whizzing over the wonders of the Waikato region in asmall plane was something 85-year-old Marion Lewin neverthought she’d do.

But the Ngutunui resident got the chance recently afterwinning a flight over the region in Environment Waikato’s‘One Waikato Seven Wonders’ competition.

It was a dream opportunity to see the landscape from awhole new perspective for Mrs Lewin, a retired schoolteacher who has a lifelong interest in the environment.

Waikato Aero Club charter pilot and EnvironmentWaikato resource information group manager, Tony Petchprovided an expert commentary for Mrs Lewin and her sonPeter, who accompanied her on the flight.

‘‘It was one of the best days of my life,’’ Mrs Lewin said.‘‘I didn’t know there was a prize, I just entered to have my

say and winning was the icing on the cake. If I was a bityounger I would go back to the aero club and learn to fly theplane myself because it was so amazing being able to see thelandscape that way.’’

One highlight was flying over her farm on the easternslopes of Pirongia, where she has lived for more than 40years. While there she got a birds eye view of a wetland shehas recently spent $5000 restoring.

It was also a chance to see the west side of Mt Pirongia.‘‘I’ve done lots of walks over it and always meant to go to

the summit but it never worked out, so I never thought I’d seethe other side with my own eyes,’’ she said.

‘‘It was quite intriguing. I had the impression that it wentalmost into the sea but it doesn’t, there’s a huge plain outthere.’’

Mrs Lewin was also impressed with the pristine bush onMaungatautari — It must have been the sort of vegetationCook saw when he first arrived in New Zealand — and theHoromatangi Reef, a geothermal area in Lake Taupo wherethe lake bed rises close to the surface.

Dr Petch said it had been a pleasure taking Mrs Lewin onthe wonder flight.

She was so interested in the landscape and it was greatbeing able to give her a unique view of all the amazingnatural features we have in our region, he said.

Mrs Lewin sponsors a hectare of native bush on Pirongiathrough the Pirongia Te Aroaro o Kahu Restoration Society, which is helping to rid the mountain of pests so trees andbirds can flourish.

She said she was thrilled Environment Waikato isplanting 10 native trees on the mountain to offset the flightscarbon emissions, in conjunction with the Department ofConservation.

Mrs Lewin’s favourite Waikato wonder, Mt Pirongia, came fifth in Environment Waikato’s One Waikato SevenWonders competition, behind the Waikato River, MtMaungatautari, Raglan and Waitomo Caves. Karangahakeand Lake Taupo were sixth and seventh.

Mrs Lewin’s flight was sponsored by Waikato Aero Club.

Rain welcomed by Maungatautari kiwi

TC220408SP18BEAKER is thriving.

Rain over Maungatautari is a welcomerelief for Beaker, a kiwi with a malformedbill which makes it difficult for her toprobe for worms especially into hardground.

The Waikato drought had forcedMaungatautari volunteers Jan Olsen andMarilyn Mackinder to increase theamount of supplementary food given toBeaker.

Each day Beaker is fed bananas, spinach, wheatgerm, soaked cat biscuitsand ox heart, courtesy of Magill’s Whole-sale Meats in Te Awamutu, which issliced to resemble worms.

Maungatautari Trust’s fauna ecologistChris Smuts-Kennedy says that as rainhas softened the ground enough to enableBeaker’s bill to penetrate the ground andforage for her own food, the amount shewill be supplementary fed will be reduceda little.

All other kiwi on the mountain havecoped well with the dry weather.

They are perfectly able to forage fortheir own food and they all have access to

wetter areas along streams plus theirprey species are also much more abun-dant on the mountain now that competingmammalian pests such as rats and hedge-hogs have been removed.

A recent health check on Huatahi, thekiwi chick born in December last year, showed that he is still averaging a weightgain of 4.7 grams per day.

‘‘He has now doubled his birth weightas we would expect after four months, andis in excellent condition,’’ says Mr Smuts-Kennedy.

Maungatautari staff will continue tomonitor all 15 kiwi on the mountain.

Beaker was gifted to theMaungatautari Ecological Island Trust inDecember 2006 — her damaged billappears to be a genetic fault so she willnot be used for breeding.

She is kept in the Tautari Wetlandseparate from the other kiwi where shecan be closely watched.

Kiwi use their long bill to get invert-ebrates more than 100mm deep in the soil.

They appear to detect them by smell-

ing (with nostrils at the tip of the beak),and by sensing movement with theirpressure-sensitive bill tip organ.

Christian PerspectiveA purple threadBy MAUREEN CALMAN

I sat for ages rewind-ing 40 meters of purplecurling ribbon - fourdifferent lengths andentangled - not an easytask!

What a seemingwaste of time! I hadtime to remember thebook and film called‘The Color Purple’ (USspelling!) by AliceWalker which tells thestory of Celie, a Blackwoman in the SouthernStates.

Celie wrote letters toGod in which she toldabout her life - her rolesas daughter, wife, sis-ter, and mother.

I also recalled thepoem ‘Warning’ byJenny Joseph:

‘‘When I am an oldwoman I shall wearpurple

‘‘With a red hatwhich doesn’t go, anddoesn’t suit me.’’

It ends: ‘‘But maybe Iought to practice a littlenow?

‘‘So people whoknow me are not tooshocked and surprised

‘‘When suddenly Iam old, and start towear purple.’’

But back to thepurple curling ribbon! In our church thecolour purple is usedsymbolically duringLent and Good Friday.Earlier in the day I’dunrolled the ribbon andthe four lengths hadbeen attached to apurple shroud drapedover a huge cross on thewall.

The threads werethen spread out amongthe people gatheredthere.

During the prayerspeople were invited totouch the threads asthey recalled the pain-ful realities in theirown lives and in thelives of so many peopleand places in the worldtoday.

As I rewound thecurling ribbon later inthe day I was touchingthe pain and tears andgrief that each personhad left imprintedthere.

I felt like a channelthrough which theirthoughts and feelingswere again beingoffered to the DivineGod. And through thisseeming time waster ofan activity, I was ableto let go of the accumu-lation of thoughts andfeelings that had beenevoked in me duringthe hearing of the GoodFriday events so longago (read about them inthe Bible, Gospel ofMatthew, chapter 27).That’s the day Jesus theChrist was hung on across and died as aresult of the violence inthe world.

But wait there’smore! That’s not theend of the story. Acouple of days laterJesus was raised to newlife again by God. God’slove proved morepowerful than the vio-lence that killed Jesus. Now that’s the really, really, really goodnews!

In Business Circles

New owners for George Street greengrocers

TC230408CA01TE AWAMUTU Country Fresh owners Taran (left) and Rakhee Nirh restocking in store.

Taran and Rakhee Nirh havebeen working hard to restock TeAwamutu Country Fresh sincetaking over the large greengrocer store in February.

The couple were approachedabout buying the business (nearThe Warehouse) by a mutualfriend of the owner.

‘‘We had been working longhours in our jobs and decided wemay as well be doing that forourselves.’’

Mr and Mrs Nirh emigratedto New Zealand three years agofrom India.

Mr Nirh had been workingfor an exporting jewellery manu-facturer there.

‘‘The company sent most ofthe stock to the United States, so

I also worked there for a year. But Rakhee didn’t want to livethere permanently.

‘‘We had family in New Zea-land so decided that would be abetter option. Our applicationswent through quite quickly sowe arrived in New Zealand sixmonths later.’’

They initially settled in Auck-land, but when looking for workfound employment in Te Awa-mutu.

Mr Nirh began working for asupermarket and later workedfor a local petrol station.

Mrs Nirh had two part timejobs - working for a fast foodoutlet and a rest home.

‘‘So we began looking for abusiness in the local area as it is

a nice, friendly town andthought what could be betterthan this?’’

They are now working side byside, building up their own busi-ness.

‘‘We have improved the rangeavailable and the standard of thestock. Our aim is to have goodprices and good quality pro-duce.’’

Te Awamutu Country Freshhas a wide range of fruit, vege-tables and grocery lines, makingfor a convenient one-stop shopseven days a week. Plenty ofparking is available directly out-side in the George Streetcarpark.

Flying high for contest

TC230408SP4HUNTAWAY Jimmie flies through the WAG agility course.

Three Ohaupo residents will betaking their dogs to the WaikatoAgility Group (WAG) competition inHamilton this weekend.

If you’re not sure what the ‘agility’means, think Tux Wonder Dogs‘assault course’.

Anita and Gemma Pouls havejoined their neighbour Amanda Hay-ward, who is an experienced contest-ant, on the agility circuit.

But the dogs they enter couldn’t bemore different.

The Pouls have two-year oldpapillons - Toby weights a mere 2.7kg and Maggie only weighs in at1.9kg. Mrs Hayward has three dogs -Ben (6 years old) and Zham (5) arecrossbreeds, while Jimmie (2) is alarge huntaway.

Mrs Pouls says the bigger dogs docompete against the little dogs - butthe difference is that the jumps arealtered in height.

‘‘You might think that larger dogswill be faster, but don’t forget that thelittle dogs do not have to jump so highand quite often do not kick the railsof the jumps.’’

She says they enjoy the friendly

atmosphere at the events and aregetting clear rounds (no mistakes)with their dogs in most competitions.

‘‘We started agility training lastyear and spend our weekends travel-ling to places like Auckland, Tau-ranga, Rotorua and Taupo for compe-titions.’’

The WAG competition being heldover Anzac weekend has differentevents running over the three days -from novelty, open jumpers andgamblers to qualification courses togain titles.

There are also different levels ofcompetition depending on the experi-ence of the dog.

Dogs and their owners will becoming from far and wide (Whanga-rei to Wellington) for the event.

The competition is being staged atMelville Park on Normandy Avenueand is open to spectators.

‘‘Dog owners are encouraged tocome and see how much fun agilitycan be for both you and your dog.’’

Anyone interested in finding outmore should contact Mrs Pouls (027523 6530) or visit WAG at MelvillePark on a Thursday evening.

Hawks fire upTe Awamutu Firehawks rugby league team

served a warning to other Waikato premierreserve title contenders that they are serious aboutdefending their crown in 2008.

The Kane Rangitonga coached Firehawksbacked up their first round 46-23 away win overKiokio Hunters at Maihihi with a 38-24 victoryover Rangariri Eels in round three - having had thebye in round two.

The win over Rangariri stretched theFirehawks unbeaten run at their Albert Parkfortress to 14 games.

The game was billed as the match of round three- the 2007 champions up against Tawera Nikau’sold club, who had entered the competition after anabsence of 12 years.

Rangariri had an impressive record leadinginto the game, having won three pre-season gamesand the first two games of the 2008 season.

The visitors led 20-18 at halftime but had to playsecond fiddle to the Firehawks in the second half.

The Firehawks are away for their next fourgames, starting with Ngaruawahia Panthers thisSaturday at 1pm.

Sports win, despite off dayEcolab Te Awamutu Sports made hard

work of their 28-22 win over the bottomplaced United Matamata Sports in Waikatopremier grade rugby.

Not for the first time this season, TeAwamutu Sports lowered their standard tothat of the opposition at Albert Park onSaturday.

Peter Bain reports that they started witha hiss and a roar, rocketing out to a 17-0 leadinside 20 minutes - only to take the foot offthe accelerator, allowing Matamata backinto the game.

Coaches Kerry Eynon and Joe Edwardswill be pleased to take four points from thegame on a day of upsets in other matches butwill rate the performance no better than fourout of 10.

It was Sports’ fourth win from fivematches, promoting them to fifth on thepoints table, three points clear of sixthplaced Morrinsville Sports.

The top eight teams after round five areTech on 22 points, Hautapu and HamiltonMarist 20, Hamilton Old Boys 19, Te Awa-

mutu Sports 18, Morrinsville Sports 15,Melville 13 and Otorohanga 11.

Te Awamutu Sports first five WaylonTangohau opened the scoring against Mata-mata with a penalty.

The visitors then looked to attack, only tosee Sports’ second-five Mark Murray race upout of the line to intercept a pass and raceaway to score under the posts.

More pressure from Sports led to a breakdown the left wing and halfback JohnnyBird had the pace to take the final pass andrun around to score behind the posts.

Matamata started to work their way backinto the game using their big forward pack, driving Sports back into their own half andscoring two tries for a 17-12 scoreline.

A further penalty to Tangohau gaveSports a 20-12 halftime lead.

Matamata started the second half thesame way they finished the first spell, putting pressure on Sports through their bigpack. Some weak defence from Sports giftedMatamata a soft try, closing the gap to 20-17.

Sports received a penalty deep in Mata-

mata’s 22. A quick tap and a drive for the linesaw No.8 Mosese Nawa crash over.

Tangohau failed to convert but momentslater landed another penalty to take Sportsout to a 28-17 lead.

Matamata never gave in and wererewarded with a bonus point try in the 79thminute.

Sports prop Kieran Ramage again put ina strong performance against a much biggeropponent.

Loosies Carl Finlay and Jono Armstrongbattled hard all day and halfback JohnnyBird was a handful around the scrums andmauls.

Mark Murray, on the comeback trail, hadanother solid game in the midfield.

Bain says Sports will need to be a lotsharper as they head into their next threegames to be played in eight days, startingwith Hamilton Marist in Hamilton onANZAC day, then at home to Morrinsville onWednesday night (April 30), then back overto Hamilton against Hamilton Old Boysthree days later on Saturday May 3.

Soccer women shineTe Awamutu women’s soccer team made a

flying start to their Federation Plate campaignthumping Kawerau 5-1 at Anchor Park.

The home team were in sparkling form, forcingan early corner. Megan-Lee Carrington’s crossfound Annmarie Spragg, who clinically finishedoff.

Carrington figured again in the second goal, laying on a pass for player of the day Janis Jamesto score.

James’ high work rate paid off when she ranonto a Sara Harvey pass and, in turn, found PixieTims who scored for a 3-0 scoreline.

Defender Rangiputa Wallace made a huge runfrom defence through midfield and linked withJames, who scored the fourth goal goal.

The second half was a more even affair, withhonours shared 1-all.

Te Awamutu’s next game is a Waikato firstdivision encounter against Hamilton Wanderers, aside they lost all three matches to last year, atAnchor Park, 11am Sunday.

Coach Smith is optimistic his team can upsetWanderers and remain top of the table on pointsdifferential.

The Waikato Cakes Te Awamutu Reserve teamwere beaten 3-0 at Ngaruawahia, with CareyIreland player of day.

Te Awamutu’s Federation Cup men’s team lost2-1 to Hamilton Wanderers.

Te Awamutu’s goal came 25 minutes into thesecond spell from a Jordan Ball corner. CarlMiezenbeek’s header was palmed clear by thekeeper but only as far as player/coach Tim Ball, who slotted the ball home.

Next game is away to Otumoetai. The Cape Physio Reserves went down 1-0 to

Waihi, while the Third Team lost 5-1 to Tokoroa.

BY COLIN THORSEN

Hat-trick of victories for Rosetown Rogues

The Kihikihi-based RosetownRogues recorded wins overteams from Australia, Englandand Canada at the 13th GoldenOldies World Cricket Festival inQueenstown.

Team spokesperson for theunbeaten Rosetown Rogues,Peter Lawry says many wonder-ful stories were told and lastingfriendships made.

The stunning setting of down-town Queenstown and theRemarkables range were thebackdrop to the dramatic open-ing ceremony.

The 1000 participants fromthe sell-out 60 teams and sevennations paraded from MarineParade along the foreshore ofLake Wakatipu to EarnslawPark in downtown Queenstown.

They were greeted with thetraditional Maori welcome in asuperb cultural performance.

Long time Golden Oldie sup-porter, Festival director from2006 in Sri Lanka, HarrySolomons was amazed at thesetting.

‘‘My goodness, where haveyou been hiding this place? It isthe most stunning and beautifulplace I have ever seen.

‘‘This is going to be a veryspecial week,’’ said Solomons.

It was certainly a specialweek for the Pat Loader cap-tained Rosetown Rogues, bothon and off the playing field.

They beat the TownsvilleCrocs (first up) by three wickets, scoring 223/7 in reply to theCrocs 222 in 40 overs.

Win double pass to AX7Te Awamutu Courierand CDs4nix (formerlyTracs) give readers thechance to win a doublepass to the the forth-coming Avenged Seven-fold show at Auckland’sTown Hall onWednesday, May 14.

This is the bandwhich has shattered thepreconceptions of punkand metalcore.Renowned for crafting atremendous variation ofmetalcore by inflectingthe traditional metalsound with outrageousbursts of hardcore furyand mesmerising wailstheir previous album‘City of Evil’ gave upgreat singles in ‘BatCountry’, ‘Beast AndThe Harlot’, ‘Burn ItDown’ and ‘Seize TheDay’.

Their current offer-ing has dished up ‘Criti-cal Acclaim’, ‘AlmostEasy’, ‘Afterlife’ and hasheavy country rocker

‘Dear God’, dramaticpower metal epic ‘ALittle Piece of Heaven’and a further five awe-some tracks leadingAX7 closer to main-stream success and youtowards heavy musicheaven and one of thebest live shows you’llsee this year.

Add Welsh metalcoretraditionalists BulletFor My Valentine withtheir heavier andharder spin on classicthrash — their new‘Scream Aim Fire’ CD isfilled with twisting dualleads charging ahead ofthe galloping rhythmsand dynamic song struc-tures and contains suchbeauts as title track‘Scream Aim Fire’ and‘Hearts Burst Into Fire’.Utilizing the ferocioussynchronized flourishesof classic’80s guitarslingers, the quartetconstruct impeccablycatchy and granite-

heavy sounds. Theirassured, majestic earlyefforts instantly markedthe band as inheritors ofBritish metal’s flameand they have carried itproudly ever since.

Throw in Californianmetalcore rockersAtreyu with Lead SailsPaper Anchor. This isAtreyu’s most access-ible album. There areseveral radio-friendlypop punk songs with bighooks and singalongchoruses. They havealways been a metalcoreband, and there aresome heavy songs on thealbum as well. Thevocals are almost allmelodic now, with just afew hardcore yells andgang vocals. Josh Toddfrom Buckcherry doesguest vocals on ‘Blow’,which ranks with othertop offerings ‘FallingDown’, ‘Doomsday’ and‘Becoming The Bull’.Lead Sails PaperAnchor is diverse, andexplores metal, pop, rock, hardcore, eightiesmetal, and evencountry.

This is the tripleheader you’ve all beenwaiting for. Tickets sell-ing fast from Ticketek.
