SECTION 02110
DEMOLITION
PART 1 -GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION
A. GENERAL:
1. Furnish all labor, materials, tools, equipment and services for all demolition as
indicated in accordance with provision of the Contract Documents.
2. Completely coordinate with work of all other trades.
3. Although such work is not specifically indicated, furnish and install all
supplementary or miscellaneous items, appurtenances and devices incidental to or
necessary for a sound, secure and complete installation.
4. See Division 1 for General Requirements.
B. RELATED WORK SPECIFIED ELSEWHERE
1. Section 02100, Site Preparation, Clearing and Grubbing.2. Section 02200, Excavation and Backfilling for Site.3. Section 02221, Trenching, Bedding, Backfilling and Compacting.
1.02 QUALITY STANDARDS
A. Conduct all demolition work in accordance with local or Kingdom of Saudi Arabiasafety standards.
B. Use only firms or individual trades qualified to perform work required under this
section.
1.03 SUBMITTAL
A. Details of proposed methods and operations.
B. Schedule of co-ordination for shut-off, capping and continuation of utility services.
C. SHOP DRAWINGS :
When items of matching and repairing require drawings for clarification of intent.
1.04 JOB CONDITIONS
A. Perform preliminary investigations as required to ascertain extent of work. Conditions
which would be apparent by such investigation will not be allowed as a cause for
claims for extra costs.

B. Before start of work, obtain and pay for all permits required by all authorities having
jurisdiction for work which affects existing exit ways, exit stairs, means of egress or
access to areas or rights of way.
1. Review with and obtain approval of authorities for any temporary construction
which affects such areas.2. Obtain approval of fire authorities.
2.01 PATCHING MATERIALS
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
Use materials as required to repair and match items.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01
A. Use water sprinkling, temporary enclosures and other methods necessary to limit
spread of dust, dirt and air pollution.
B. Clean adjacent structures and improvements of all dust, dirt and debris caused by
demolition operations.
C. Return areas to the condition existing prior to the start of work.
3.02 OPERATION PROCEDURES
A. Start and complete work as established by approved schedule. Operational procedures
and sequence of work are optional with the Contractor provided the schedule is
maintained.
B. Protect occupants from injury and discomfort.
C. Protect property to remain.
D. Conduct operations to insure minimum interference with roads, walks, entrances, exitsand other adjacent occupied facilities.
E. Construct temporary partitions in public areas of clean, painted, minimum thickness
plywood.
F. Provide covered passageways where necessary to ensure safe passage of persons in or
near areas of work.
G. Provide barricades and safety lights as required.
H. Provide temporary dust proof partitions where necessary to prevent infiltration of dustinto occupied areas.

I. Provide temporary weather protection as necessary to prevent damage to existing
facilities and discomfort to persons in occupied areas.
3.03 DEMOLITION - GENERAL
A. Buildings and other structures to be demolished will be vacated and discontinued in
use prior to the start of work.
B. The GOTEVT assumes no responsibility for actual conditions of structures to be
demolished.
C. Conditions existing at the time of inspection for bidding purposes will be maintained
by the GOTEVT in so far as is practicable until start of work.
D. Variations within structures may occur by the GOTEVT's removal and salvageoperations prior to the start of demolition work.
E. Items of salvage by the Contractor may be removed from structures as work
progresses.
F. Transport salvaged items from site as they are removed.
G. Storage or sale of removed items shall not be permitted on site.
H. Do not use explosives.
I. Do not close or obstruct private drives, walks or other occupied or used facilities
unless approval is given in writing.
J. Do not close or obstruct public thoroughfares or walks unless approved by authorities
having jurisdiction.
K. Provide alternate routes around closed or obstructed traffic ways.
L. Provide covered passageways to ensure safe passage of persons around areas of
demolition.
M. Conduct operations to prevent damage by falling debris or other cause to adjacent
buildings, structures and other facilities as well as persons. Provide interior and
exterior shoring, bracing or support to prevent movement, settlement or collapse of
structures.
N. Promptly repair damage to adjacent facilities caused by demolition, as directed by the
GOTEVT at no cost to the GOTEVT.
O. Maintain existing utilities indicated to remain, keep in service and protect against
damage during demolition.

1. Do not interrupt existing utilities serving occupied or used facilities, except when
authorized by the GOTEVT.
2. Provide temporary services during interruptions to existing utilities as acceptable to
the GOTEVT.
3. Disconnect and seal utilities before starting demolition.
P. Before starting demolition employ a certified rodent and vermin exterminator and treat
entire building in accordance with governing health laws and regulations.
3.04 DISPOSAL OR SALVAGE OF MATERIALS
A. Remove demolition debris from site.
B. Do not burn materials on site.
C. Dispose of items or materials not designated for the GOTEVT's salvage or reuse.
1. Promptly remove from site.
2. Do not store or sell Contractor salvaged items or materials on site.
3.05 CLEAN UP
A. Remove all debris, rubbish and materials resulting from cutting, demolition or
patching operations.
B. Transport materials and legally dispose of off the site.
