DEFINITIONS• Profiling:

– Is collection of data on specific variables.

– information is collected to act as baseline for the farmers’ records management.

– For farmer progress in agriculture is bench marked.

• Data Network Agency (DNA): – Is a name that INFOTRADE uses to refer to an organization that has subscribed to FARMIS.

– DNA will be licensed by FIT Uganda to manage the membership.

– The organization should have legal registration.

– Such an organization will be a source and center for all agricultural production data.

– It will also form a network for sharing of this data with the relevant stakeholders and users.

UNDERSTANDING FARMIS• FARMIS is an acronym • Secure environment to record, store, analyze and generate reports on the farmer’s

business. • Thus, from FIT’s Perspective, FARMIS can better be understood as follows;

FARMER:- Any individual in a farming-based enterprise, working for an economic profit.

RECORDS: - Aims at creating good tracking process for information in farm business enterprises.

MANAGEMENT: - It is a process control, to allow checks and balances at the work place.

INFORMATION: - It an inventory of data which leads to Information.

SYSTEM: - It is way of coordinating a number of related activities on the farm, supporting the storage, analysis and its retrieval or possible linkage to partners or

stakeholders.

SUMMARY OF FARMIS OBLIGATIONS

INFOTRADE:• Develop or adapt a user friendly software system (web based) that allows associations to enter

production data of farmers.

• Data network: Setting up a network for collection and storage of data

• Information sharing: Responsible for exchange of information throughout the value chain.

• Recording of agricultural data

• Monitoring the collection of data.

• Maintenance of the national data base on agricultural information.

• Set up channels for distribution or dissemination of agricultural information.

• To market and advertise the collected data.

DNA ROLES• Membership profiling and Recruitment

• Entry of Profiling Data

• Training Farmers in Records Keeping: Field Visits:

• Reports Generation.

• Performance Assessment.

• Account Management and maintenance .

• Provide agricultural extension services.

• Keeping track of market prices in the area of operation.

• Provide accurate records and ensure confidentiality of data.

• Collection of business records and transactions from farmers and producers.

FARMER ROLES

• Payment of Subscription Fee: Subscription for the INFOTRADE services by paying up the subscription fee for a minimum of six months, that is UShs.9,200/=

• Records Keeping: Keeping records on their seasonal financial and production information.

• INFOTRADE Farm Book Usage: Regular and continuous filling crop card entries of business transactions and activities relating to both production and marketing.

• Submission of IFB: it is the farmer’s role to ensure that their crop card is submitted to DNA every season.
