Imitation: Murder of creativity by creators, Article by Rahim Dhanani, CESL, RKU“Art is an illusion and all arts are imitative." This was the charge by Plato, the great Greek philosopher on artists. But his disciple, Aristotle proved wise himself by answering his master that Imitation is there in human instinct. A man cannot live without it. When a child imitates his/her teacher at home by saying, 'I want to be like Mr. Brown (My Teacher)', and family welcomes that imitation. Even cinema is an imitation of an action. Thus, Imitation is a key to all the arts, without that, art cannot breathe. Later on, James Joyce, an Irish writer, had also proved that: "Art is the ultimate key of the kingdom of heaven." In our time, Imitation can be found from ornaments to fabrics (i.e.) in almost crafts. We say, Plato's charge was not against the art. He himself was a great philosopher. But his charge was against the artists who were mere Imitators. It's a proverb in Gujarati also that: "Imitation does not contain intellect" (Nakal ne akkal na hoy) Many Writers, students, research scholars (in developing nations like India) today are following this principle of Imitation whether to acquire the degree or for the credit purpose. In some cases said above, Imitation is welcome but at times Plagiarism policies are there also. Google has also its Plagiarism Checker. But the question here is... 'Where is the originality?' Do we really need all these measurements to measure the originality? Originality speaks itself. The place of creativity has been snatched away because of blind imitation. Most of the works nowadays

are Imitations of Imitations. Plato was against the artist, but not the art which has originality and creativity. He had banished all the Imitators from his ideal Republic because at that time he knew that Imitation may harm the creativity. A teacher must possess creative mind because he has to bring up many minds studying under him. Thus, Imitation must be considered 'Crime' rather than 'Mistake' for creative teachers. When we were born, we learned everything through Imitation, but we have our own original identity. Same must be the case with all the works, either its writings, research projects, or assignments. But our case is opposite here. We are forgetting our own originality and are depended on someone's ideas, which is again someone's Imitation. And one may term it 'Twice/thrice removed from reality'. Thus, being teachers, we are to stop this Imitation rst and then can promote students for opting creative way of study rather than imitative way. 'Charity begins at home' . RKU has also established rules and regulations for students and research scholars for their research projects to promote plagiarism free learning. It's a good initiative in the eld of research and creativity that one can be original by murdering blind imitation. A teacher must believe in 'Outcome' rather than 'Income'. I can conclude this article by my own lines:'If we imitate, Surely we can earn. But if we create, Indeed we learn.'

She was like those shades of color that need no description. Impeccable and gorgeous in her own ways. Her chaos and struggles with herself, was the game she plays. Her bag contained books, diary and a pen.Unlike the girls having lipsticks and scents. She is the adjectives you need to describe beauty. Her aws and scars reect her story.

“She” -A Poem by RKU Student She is no one's hero or a saint. Her life is on her own.Dependency is not her kind. For good she praises herself, for bad she mourns. It's hard to nd someone like her, for she is the rst edition of a mysterious story by a famous writer; herself. She is like the night sky, and the daylight seen at the same time. Like the untouched book on the shelf.
