Sun Liang, 25, and his wife, Chen Jiahua, 23, met at work in Shenzhen and fell in love. Last year, they tied the knot. They had brainstormed unique ways to make their honeymoon memorable. Led by their shared keen sense of adventure and love for nature, they settled on a road trip on motorcycle. The couple plotted their course across the Eurasian sub- continent. Sun also obtained an international motorcycle license and visas to the countries along their route. On May 20, the couple set off from Sun’s hometown, Weifang, in Shandong Province. Sun suffered soreness in his arms on the first day of their journey as he was unaccustomed to riding the motorcycle, which was brand new. When they arrived in Inner Mongolia, the couple was swept off the main road by a tornado. Chen recalled being frightened and that she couldn’t help crying. The newlyweds did not stop their journey. The couple also made a rule not to ride during nights. One night, they were in the middle of nowhere on the Alps with steep cliffs. Exhausted, Sun decided not to take the risk of riding further and the couple found an inn along the road, but there was no room left. They had to borrow a tent from the inn and sleep outdoors. Seeing the world from a dif- ferent perspective is their big- gest gain from the journey, said the couple. CHILDREN diagnosed with Phe- nylketonuria, also known as PKU, can now get free access to specially made food in Shenzhen until they turn 18, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Thursday. The city’s health and family planning commission and the finance commission has recently jointly launched a program to provide free specially made food for children suffering from PKU, the report said. Applicants should be below 18 years old and register with the Shenzhen Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital. They should have Shenzhen hukou or be born in the city with legal residence permits. According to the report, eli- gible applicants can get specially made food starting from next year from the Shenzhen Mater- nity and Child Healthcare Hospi- tal until they are 18 years old. The city’s finance commission will set aside 5,000 to 20,000 yuan per child to ensure the food will be delivered on time. PKU is a rare inherited disor- der that causes an amino acid called phenylalanine to build up in the patient’s body. Without the enzyme necessary to process phe- nylalanine, a dangerous buildup can develop when a person with PKU eats foods that are high in protein. This can eventually lead to serious health complications. For their entire lives, people suffering from PKU must follow a strict diet that limits phenylala- nine intake, which is found mostly in foods that contain protein. Food that fits such a limited diet costs 1,000 to 2,000 yuan (US$152 to 303) per month for children, which is an immense financial burden for some families. The city’s neonatal disease screening center has screened over 2.2 million newborns in Shenzhen since it was launched in 1998, and 15,000 babies were diagnosed with neonatal diseases and treated in a timely manner. As of last year, a total of 86 babies in the city have been diagnosed with PKU at the center. Passengers can get their QR boarding passes through the apps or online check-in services of airline companies. With e- boarding passes and IDs they can go through security checks at designated lanes, Lane 23 and Lane 24, according to a release of the Shenzhen airport Wednesday. Before boarding, passengers may present the e-boarding passes to ground service employ- ees at boarding gates, who will scan the boarding passes and print a receipt as a boarding cer- tificate, which will be used during the double-check for boarding. Compared with traditional printed boarding passes, the e- pass saves time for passengers. The airport said the e-pass only applies to passengers whose flights depart from Shenzhen to other cities in China. Those who have luggage for shipment, transfer at Shenzhen airport, carry babies, need special atten- dance, or children under age 12 need to go through regular check-in services at airport counters. Ex-officer prosecuted FORMER chief of a law enforcement unit in Ban- tian Subdistrict, Longgang District, was prosecuted for allegedly abusing power and taking bribes, according to a notice from Shenzhen People’s Procuratorate on Tuesday. Longgang prosecutors started an investigation into alleged crimes of the suspect, surnamed Su, in October 2014. But Su had been on the run since then and later sur- rendered in June this year. Knives, guns destroyed SHENZHEN Municipal Public Security Bureau destroyed a total of 37, 660 controlled knives and 728 homemade guns in Bao’an District on Wednesday. Since March this year, police have busted a total of 483 gun or knife related cases. Amidst an action in August, police busted 125 knife-related cases and 177 people were questioned. Fugitive caught A MAN who had been on the run for 23 years for homicide and became the richest person in Mashan County, Guangxi, was caught recently by Bao’an police. On Dec. 1, 1994, a man surnamed Wang was robbed, stabbed and killed by four suspects in Shajing, Bao’an District. Two suspects were caught and jailed, while two others, both surnamed Huang, were still on the run. Bao’an police re-initiated the case and officer Ye Xuesong, who led a task force, found evidence of the two suspects visiting the suspects’ hometown. In a two-month investigation, the task force discovered that the two suspects changed their names in 1994 after the robbery, and one of them had become the richest person in the county by running water and mining factories. The two suspects were caught Aug. 16, one near a local hospital, the other in an up-market hous- ing estate. The case is still under investigation. THE Shenzhen Internet Finan- cial Association announced the implementation of the country’s first information sharing system for Internet financial practi- tioners, including regulations and disciplinary measures for violators of the rules Sept. 27, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported. Seven Internet financial plat- forms were the first batch to participate in the information sharing, all of whom were mainly P2P lending platforms. “Because loan fraud in the P2P lending industry is often collusive, the qualification of practitioners on these platforms plays a key role in maintaining the healthy development of the industry,” said an insider. Li Kai, deputy secretary gen- eral of the association, said that practitioners should be aware that when they violate regula- tions, P2P lending institutions have the right to submit informa- tion about them to the database, which other institutions can find by querying the practitioner, leading to increased transpar- ency and reputation control within the industry. Meanwhile, P2P lending insti- tutions should conduct stricter examination and management of practitioners’ behavior. In handling violations, institutions should determine and be account- able for the validity of their find- ings. P2P lending institutions should ensure a real-time con- nection with the association’s data transmission interface, and keep the database of violation informa- tion open to the entire association for infomation sharing. Behaviors such as fraud, cash-out, theft, forgery, temper- ing with customer’s application materials and identity theft caused by careless examination of customer’s information are on the blacklist of malpractice. “For practitioners who have violated regulations, it will be dif- ficult for them to look for jobs in the future. Measures will even be taken by the regulatory authori- ties to hinder their market access,” said Zeng Guang, secretary gen- eral of the association. According to sources close to the Shenzhen Financial Services Office, as to specific penalties, minor violators are not per- mitted to serve as executives, and serious offenders must be permanently excluded from the financial industry. However, for the large number of P2P lending platforms in Shenzhen, it is not mandatory to use the current system during its early stages.
