Hu Gengxiang, head of the Publicity Department of the Longgang District Committee of the CPC, said Cirque du Soleil performance will not only enrich people’s lives but also establish a platform for exchange between international counterparts in the culture and art industry. Cirque Du Soleil, from Mon- treal, has performed in 450 cities in 60 countries. Before coming to Shenzhen, it had already given over 100 performances in Beijing and Shanghai. Zhang Qian [email protected] ON two consecutive days, Shenzhen University unveiled plans to build new hospitals. After announcing it would open a stomatological hospital in Bao’an District on Tuesday, the univer- sity said Wednesday that it had inked a framework agreement with the Shenshan (Shenzhen- Shanwei) Special Cooperation Zone to collaboratively build a hospital there. The Shenshan Special Coop- eration Zone is located between Shenzhen and Shanwei, a city to the east of Shenzhen, for the col- laborative development of both cities. The Guangdong Provincial Government approved the estab- lishment of the special coopera- tion zone in 2011. On Wednesday morning, the university’s management leaders visited the special cooperation zone and attended a seminar with Chan Yaodong, director of the zone’s management commit- tee. The two parties later signed the framework agreement on building a Shenzhen University affiliated hospital. According to the initial agree- ment, the hospital is expected to become a comprehensive medi- cal institution with both research and teaching functions. The hospital will provide 2,000 ward beds with an outpatient building, an inpatient building, a teaching and research building, an administration building and even student dormitory build- ings. Construction work on buildings providing 1,000 beds will be carried out in Phase 1. The university and the special cooperation zone will make the final decisions on the Phase 2 buildings, which will provide the rest of the beds. Temporarily named Shenzhen University Shenshan Hospital, the hospital will be affiliated with Shenzhen University as a nonprofit public medical insti- tution. Chan gave a brief introduction to the special cooperation zone and its blueprint. He said that the cooperation zone, which is still undergoing infrastructure devel- opment projects, will develop using the mode under which enterprises are headquartered in Shenzhen but have bases in the zone. Li Qingquan, president of Shenzhen University, praised the rapid change of the zone. He said he thinks the area has a lot of development potential. The president also disclosed that the university plans to build four affiliated hospitals, including the Shenzhen Univer- sity Shenshan Hospital and 10 non-affiliated hospitals. THE traffic police bureau said that it had looked deeper into 362 traffic accidents in 2017, aiming at preventing similar accidents from happening. Measures taken following the investigation yielded positive outcomes, as the death toll from traffic accidents in the city last year dropped by 16.83 percent, the highest drop over the past five years. Among the 362 traffic acci- dents investigated, six were defined as criminal cases, and traffic police handed out 208 administrative punishments. According to the bureau, the in-depth investigation was aimed at effectively preventing road accidents through an extended investigation into the underly- ing causes of the traffic accidents, as well as factors related to road traffic safety. Traffic accidents that resulted in death or major property loss were their main targets, accord- ing to the traffic police. The investigation mainly targeted cargo and passenger transport companies, toll road management enterprises and other people, vehicles and other property for accidents that caused severe losses, serious congestion or other negative impacts on society. For instance, one of the in- depth investigations involved a sanitation worker who was killed by a heavy truck while working in a tunnel on Jan. 23, 2017. The traffic police paid particular attention to this case. The police’s investigation later found that it was the sanitation worker’s company that was to blame for the death of its employee as the staffers had not been told how to properly install safety signs or to wear a safety protection suit while working in a tunnel. The company’s safety man- ager, surnamed Dai, was accused of violating the safety production law and was put into criminal detention. (Zhang Qian) A HAND-PAINTED wall, which took four months to finish, was spread out before residents in Cuihu Community, Jihua Sub- district, Longgang District, on Wednesday, adding vitality to the community in a delightful way, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Thursday. The wall, which depicts idyllic spring scenery with mountains, rivers, trees, grass, flowers, birds and people, is located at the border of two residential estates in Cuihu Community in Longgang District. A resident, surnamed Zhang, who lives in one of the residential estates, said that he was surprised by the wall when he passed by Wednesday afternoon. At first glance, he thought that a park had just appeared out of nowhere. “Our neighborhood doesn’t have much green space, as the scenery in the urban village is quite dull and the buildings are densely built. Now that we have a landscape corridor with an open view, it is a pleasure to walk by,” he said. According to Tang Meilan, GUANGDONG, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces are the top destinations for Shenzhen trav- elers in the upcoming Spring Festival holiday, according to data released by Didi Hitch, the car-pooling arm of ride-sharing giant Didi Chuxing, the South- ern Metropolis Daily reported Thursday. On Wednesday, Didi Hitch disclosed to the public its fore- cast data for the coming Spring Festival transport season. It is estimated that 33 million people will use its inter-city car-pooling service to return home. The number, which accounts for 50.77 percent of the esti- mated passenger trips on flights and 8.48 percent of trips on railways, is expected to be three times the sum of the previous two years. Among cities that favor the inter-city car-pooling service, Shenzhen ranks first in the country, surpassing Guangzhou, Chengdu, Beijing and Hangzhou. In addition, Shenzhen-Guangzhou and Shenzhen-Ganzhou, Jiangxi, are among the top four booked lines. According to the data, on Feb. 13, two days before the Spring Festival, nearly 1 million people will take homeward journeys using its car-pooling service. On Chinese New Year’s Eve, up to 400,000 people are expected to be on the way home. On Feb. 23, the day which the holiday ends, more than 1.1 million people will return to work. In 2016, the car-pooling ser- vice carried 1.9 million passen- gers home, covering 31 provinces and amounting to 24 percent of China Southern Airlines’ pas- senger volume the same year. During the Spring Festival in 2017, the service transported 8.48 million passengers for inter-city travel. This year, it is estimated that the service will enable more than 7.5 million passengers to arrive home directly, especially to those hard-to-reach towns.
