File Menu

File Menu is manly used for File Management functions and importing data into Minitab.

Main Functions include: 1. Project/Worksheet File

Management − New, Open, Save, Print − You can save the worksheet

and graphs as Minitab Project files. These are saved as .mpj files.

2. Import Data from other files

Page 4: 02. Menu Bar

Edit Menu

Edit Menu is used for editing existing data in Minitab.

Common functions include : Select Delete Copy Paste Dynamic Links

Page 5: 02. Menu Bar

Data Menu

The Data Menu is used for creating and managing data in the data worksheet.

You can combine worksheets, stack columns, change data types for columns and more.

Page 6: 02. Menu Bar

Data Menu – Common Functions

Subset Worksheet - copies specified rows from the active worksheet to the new worksheet Split Worksheet - splits or unstacks the active worksheet into two or more new

worksheets based on one or more "By" variables Merge Worksheets - combines two worksheets into one new worksheet Sort - sorts one or more columns of data Rank - assigns rank scores to values in a column Delete Rows - deletes specified rows from columns in the worksheet Erase Variables - erases any combination of columns, stored constants and

matrices Stack - stacks columns on top of each other to make longer columns Transpose Columns - switches columns to rows Concatenate - combines two or more text columns side by side into one new

column Code - recode values in columns Change Data Type - changes columns from one data type (such as numeric, text, or

date/time) to another

Calc Menu

This Menu provides advanced functions for statistical calculations.

It also enables both row and column calculations

Data Standardization Data Extraction Data Generation

Calc Menu – Common Functions

Column Statistics - calculates various statistics based on a column you select Row Statistics - calculates various statistics for each row of the columns you select Standardize - centers and scales columns of data Make Patterned Data - provides an easy way to fill a column with numbers or date/time

values that follow a pattern. See also Generating Patterned Data Overview for related information.

Make Mesh Data - creates a regular (x,y) mesh to use for drawing contour, 3D surface and wireframe plots, with the option to create the z-variable as well

Make Indicator Variables - creates indicator (dummy) variables that you can use in regression analysis. See also Generating Patterned Data Overview for related information.

Set Base - fixes a starting point for Minitab's random number generator Random Data - displays commands for generating a random sample of numbers, sampled

either from columns of the worksheet or from a variety of distributions Probability Distributions - displays commands that allow you to compute probabilities,

probability densities, cumulative probabilities, and inverse cumulative probabilities for continuous and discrete distributions

Matrices - displays commands for doing matrix operations

Stat Menu

The Statistics Menu is the most commonly used Menu for statistical analysis. This includes advanced Statistical Tools and Graphs like -

• Hypothesis Tests • Regression • Design for Experiments • Control Charts • Reliability Testing

We will study some specific graph tools in

session 4 and 5.

Page 10: 02. Menu Bar

Graph Menu The Graph Menu helps to

create the common Graphs required for analysis of data.

Some of the common graphs include:

• Scatter Plot • Trend Plot • Box Plot • Contour/3 D plotting • Dot Plots • Probability Plots • Stem & Leaf Plots We will study some specific graph tools in

session 4 and 5.

Editor Menu Editor Menu commands are

dynamic and change depending on which window is active.

Worksheet Window Editor helps to insert rows, columns and format the

columns. You can also assign a Formula to a column and

define custom lists using this

Menu.

Session Window Editor helps to find move between commands, find and replace

information in the session window. Output Editable helps control changes that can

be made to the text in the session window.

Page 12: 02. Menu Bar

Editor Menu

Graph Editor helps to select,

edit, brush, copy, duplicate, update the

Graphs created

Graph Window while Editor helps to select, brush, hair, set and create id variable for the

graphs

Page 13: 02. Menu Bar

Tool Menu The Tools menu provides access to common tools like -

•Microsoft Calculator •Notepad •Windows Explorer

You can add more tools in this list using Customize function.

•Define which Toolbars to view in your Minitab Toolbar and customize shortcut keys using Customize

•Define password for your Minitab files using File Security

•Use the Options feature to change the advanced settings of Minitab

Page 14: 02. Menu Bar

Window Menu

The Window menu helps adjust the windows that you see on your Minitab screen. You can arrange the windows as a cascade, tiles or minimized form. You can also Toggle between different Windows

Page 15: 02. Menu Bar

Help Menu Meet Minitab - provides an overview of Minitab

functionality. StatGuide - provides statistical guidance for interpreting

statistical tables and graphs in a practical, easy-to-understand way.

Tutorials - provide concrete examples of how to apply, set up, and perform a broad range of analyses.

Glossary - opens Minitab's Statistical Glossary, which covers all areas of Minitab statistics.

Methods and Formulas Help - which provides information on the methods and formulas used in Minitab.

Knowledgebase/FAQ - links to Minitab's Knowledgebase/FAQ on the web, which contains an extensive collection of customer support questions and their answers.

Keyboard Map - displays lists of assigned keyboard shortcuts for commands.

Licensing - opens the licensing utility for single-user versions of Minitab, which allows you to activate Minitab or move Minitab and its license to another computer. For multi-user versions of Minitab, this option only displays licensing status information.

The Assistant menu provides helpful wizards to conduct the following analysis:

• Measurement System Analysis

• Capability Analysis • Graphical Analysis • Hypothesis Tests • Regression • Control Charts

• Follow the steps as prompted

by the Wizard to complete the analysis.
