■ DRUMHELLER, ALBERTA
There’s only one good reason an RV resort would be
named Dinosaur Trail. You guessed it. It’s smack-dab in
the middle of prime fossil country: Alberta’s Drumheller
Valley, the Dinosaur Capital of Canada.
What makes Drumheller Canada’s Dinosaur Capital? To
find out, you have to go back some 60 to 70 million years,
when Alberta lay at the crossroads of dinosaurs traveling
north to the Arctic, south to the tropics or between Asia and
North America. Alberta’s fossil record depicts a time when
dinosaurs were at the height of their diversity.
Fast-forward to the 1880s, when J.B. Tyrrell discovered a
dinosaur skull while searching for coal deposits along the
river. This began the area’s collection of dinosaur remains
that are sought after by museums worldwide—thus the name
Dinosaur Capital of Canada.
Situated in the heart of the
Canadian Badlands in a quiet
rural setting on the
banks of the Red Deer
River, Dinosaur Trail
RV Resort takes ad-
vantage of spectacular
scenery and interest-
ing things to do. The
tranquil river offers
recreational opportunities as it meanders through the park-
lands. Several paleontology-related sites are nearby, includ-
ing the Royal Tyrrell Museum and Dinosaur Trail Scenic
Route. Other nearby diversions range from golf courses to
dinner theaters to historical venues.
Dinosaur Trail RV Resort offers a heated swimming pool,
a convenience store, a recreational hall and a playground.
Canoe rentals also are available, enabling you to explore the
Red Deer River for yourself.
