Devastation - First responders are shocked at the massive carnage in this June 2, six vehicle pileup on northbound IH35E. Traffic stopped on the interstate, because of an earlier fatality mowing accident, was plowed into by a commercial 18-wheeler, resulting in the death of Annie’s List executive director Grace Garcia. Hawkmoon - As the last ‘supermoon’ of 2014 slips away, this hawk is sillouitted against the giant image on Sept. 9, 2014, just off of FM-813 in Waxahachie. Every life matters - On May 14, 2014, Waxahachie firefighters Lt. Brent Fuller and Pump Engineer Matthew Dorsey give oxygen to kittens suffering from smoke inhalation after be- ing rescued by firefighters from a house fire in the 700 block of Stanford Drive. A loss never forgotten - On July 28, Waxahachie police officers gather at the makeshift memorial to WPD officer Josh Williams on US77, two years to the minute of his tragic death, to honor a fallen hero. Williams was killed by a drunk driver on July 28, 2012. Rescue - On June 27, Waxahachie fire, police and EMS work to save a paraplegic man who’s van ran off of IH35E and crashed into Waxahachie Creek. History preserved - Members of the Perot group, along with Dr. Tykoski worked to pack up and remove the remains of an ancient mammoth from a site in southern Ellis County on Sept. 17. Overcome - A volunteer fireman is overcome by heat as they battle a trailer house fire south of Waxahachie on Sept. 24. There were no injuries in the blaze, but the home was a total loss. New beginnings - On Dec. 6, parents Justin and Erica welcomed baby Noah into the world. Noah was the first baby to be born at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center’s new hospital. Threats and security - The community was rocked by four bomb threats at Waxahachie ISD schools in 2014, prompting evacuations, lockdowns, and a visible show of force from Waxahachie Police Depart- ment’s SWAT team and bomb sniffing dogs. The threats prompted WISD officials to re- view and adopt new guidelines to help deal with the threats.
