DEFENCE
YA Armored and Mechanized Units, representing the pil-
lar of our defence against NATO aggression, have not suf-
fered practically any losses, said the Chief of YA Armored
and Mechanized Units Department - Lieutenant General
Slobodan Kovacevic.
YA tank-warfare capacities and capabilities are one of
the best in the world and our armored and mechanized units
are in the lead. Therefore, we could rightly say that they are
the backbone of defence and aggressor determent, said Lt.
Gen. Kovacevic during his visit to the units in the field.
Our capable and expert armored units officers have taken
all the precaution measures aimed at preventing possible
losses by NATO attacks. The M-84 tank is a state-of-the-artweapon capable of successfully taking on all other types of
tanks, added Lt. Gen. Kovacevic. Knowing the terrain, the
people and above all, the morale and patriotic feelings of
our nation, we are the guarantee of a determined defence in
the region, stressed the Chief of YA Armored and
Mechanized Units Department.
NATO raids on industrial and civilian facilities in thenight between april 21st and 22nd 1999
In the past 24 hours NATO continued raids with thesame intensity and destructiveness on the 29th day ofthe agression on FR Yugoslavia. Private houses andapartement buildings, industrial plants, transport andtelecommunication facilities were shelled once again byenemy cruise missiles. Many civilian buildings, attackednumerous times by the enemy, were completelydestroyed by the fire.
DJAKOVICA: (12:00) NATO aircraft raided the southernpart of the town. A refugee camp used by Serbs fromBosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia was added to thetarget list. Acording to data available 10 people werekilled, including children, and 16 people were wounded.
VALJEVO: (00:40) Eleven missiles were launched at thenorthern and central part of Krusik production plant. Itwas the fifth raid on the factory in the past several days,now turned into rubble and ashes. The twelvth missile hitthe railway station. Immense material damage was
inflicted.BELGRADE: (00:30) Numerous explosions were heardin the capital last night. Batajnica Airport was once againthe target, and around 3:15 a.m. strong detonetions wereregistered in the municipal area. Yesterday, around 1:50p.m., the railway bridge on the river Sava linking thetown of Ostruznica to the village of Jakovo on the otherbank (in the Srem region) has been hit.
