What is the Access Course?TheAccessCourseisaprogrammeofstudyformaturestudents-studentswhohavebeenoutofeducationforsometime.ItleadstothenationallyrecognisedAccesstoHigherEducationDiplomaforentrytouniversity in this country.
Thecoursecanbeusedtoenhanceyourcareerprospects-theAccesscourseisespeciallydesignedformaturestudentswhoarereturningtostudy.Weofferacombinationofdaytimeandeveningclassestosuityour individual needs
What are the entry requirements?Seeindividualsubjectsfortheirentryrequirements.WhenwereceiveyourapplicationwewillinviteyouintoCollegeforaninformaldiscussionwithoneofourexperiencedadultguidancestaff.
What will you do on the course?ToachievethefullAccessDiplomayouwillstudythreemodulesoveroneortwoyears.Thisqualifiesyouforuniversityentranceandgives you the nationally recognised diploma. Each module requires approximately three hours attendance at College each week and you are expected to spend time completing private study. As the courses areintensive,fullattendanceoflessonsisessentialinorderforyoutobesuccessful.Ifyouareadaytimestudentyouwillalsohavetutorialsessions. Wherever possible, daytime classes are timetabled between 9.30am and 3.00pm to enable children to be taken to and collected fromschool.Fulldetailsofthemodulesareenclosed.ToachievethefullAccessDiploma,youwillalsoneedtocompletetheStudySkillsModulewhichwillbecompletedalongsideoneofyoursubjectmodules.
Access to Higher Education
How is the course assessed?Youarefullysupportedbyyourteacherssodon’tworryaboutthis.Muchoftheassessmentisbycoursework,assignmentsandwrittenprojectsthroughouttheyearhoweverinsomemodulesthereareendofcourseexaminations.
What does it cost?Students who are 24 or older
YoucanapplyforanFEloanfromApril2014.Theamountoftheloanwillcover100%ofthecostofyourcourse.YoucangototheCollege’swebsiteforfurtherinformationonloans-www.qeliz.ac.uk/24+Advanced Learning Loans.
Students who are between the age of 19 - 23
Therearetuitionandexaminationfeesbutifyouareinreceiptofcertainbenefitsorifyouhaveacertaineducationalprofile,yourfeesmaybesignificantlyreduced.Forstudentsonlowincome,theCollege’sLearnerSupportFundcanprovideassistancewithresources.

There will be emphasis on discussion, group work and oral presentation as well as on independent research.

HistoryTheHistorymodulewilldevelopyourunderstandingofhistoryandgiveyoutheskillsandconfidencenecessaryfortheadvancedstudyofthesubject.Itwillenableyoutodemonstrateanunderstandingofthepastthroughexplanationandanalysisandtomakeinformedjudgementsofhistoricalconceptsandcontextswithinaspecificperiod.Youwillexaminearangeofhistoricalsources,considerhistoricalcontroversiesandproduceanumberofpiecesofwork(oneofwhichwillbealocalstudy).

ASSESSMENT
