What is a “Small Cell”?
There is not a universal definition of “small cell”
1. A small cell is a single, low power, optically fed unit (often part of a bigger
network) designed to augment macro coverage and provide capacity relief in
densely populated areas.
2. Small cells are generally placed on existing structures in the Public Right-of-
Way.
3. In underground districts (new) stand alone poles are needed
4. Existing wooden power poles are the fastest and most desirable method to
deploy small cell networks – lowest impact to neighborhoods. Street lamps
offer clean alternatives to power poles
5. Power and Fiber are as much a part of the network as radios and antennas
6. Before Small Cell Networks can be developed, Right of Way agreements and
Pole Attachment Agreements are needed
