Dr. Padojinog named 4th University PresidentThe UA&P Board of Trustees (BOT) recently

announced the appointment of Dr. Winston Conrad Padojinog as the fourth president of the University of Asia and the Pacific. He will succeed Dr. Jose Maria Mariano as President in June this year.

Dr. Padojinog has been the Dean of the School of Management (SMN) since 2011. He held key positions in the Faculty of Sciences and Technology and the School of Economics before joining SMN in 2009 as Vice Dean. He earned his Doctor of Business Administration degree from De La Salle University and his Master of Science in Industrial Economics from the Center for Research and Communication (CRC). He has a bachelors degree in economics and management from the University of the Philippines Visayas.

In a statement, the BOT said: In selecting the next University President, we were guided by the aim of identifying someone who will build on the achievements and gains of his pre-decessor. We know that Dr. Padojinog is that person. We are confident that we have chosen someone who will be able to lead UA&P at this time of growth and progress in many fronts as well as new challenges.

Dr. Padojinog has a solid reputation as an industrial economist and strategic manage-ment expert. He has worked as business strat-egy consultant and policy adviser of various private corporations, local government units, national government agencies, companies and industries. In the last four years, he has been deeply involved in the International Faculty

of SMNs Advanced Management Program in cooperation with IESE Business School, Barcelona, Spain.

Moreover, the President-des-ignate has a proven track record as a leader who works well within an environ-ment of collaboration and unity of purpose. He is highly regarded and much admired in the University, which he has served since 1989 as a graduate staff member in CRC. He is 47 years old and is married to Prima Rosa Nenita Solas.

    They have a 13-year-old daughter, Regina Ma-ria.

The BOT thanked Dr. Mariano for his vi-sion and his generous and loyal service. Under the leadership of Dr. Mariano, two new schools were established in UA&P: the School of Scienc-es and Engineering and the School of Law and Governance. During his term, UA&P has also moved significantly closer to the attainment of autonomous status from CHED and Level 4 accreditation from PACUCOA. He established important linkages with foreign embassies which enabled the University to forge partner-

ships with universities abroad and carry out joint projects. He was the driving force behind several partnerships resulting in substantial endowments and notable joint programs with business corporations.

The Board also credited Dr. Mariano for successfully reintegrating the Center for Research and Communication with UA&P and strengthening the system of collegial gover-nance throughout the Universi-ty. At the request of the Board, he has agreed to continue serv-

ing UA&P in the areas of internationalization and research.

The investiture of the fourth President of UA&P will coincide with the University Open-ing Rites, an annual gathering which marks the beginning of the new school year.

The inaugural report of the UA&P Programme for Work and Fam-ily Integration, entitled Flexing the Boundary between Work and Family, is featured in the latest issue of the MBC Re-search Report, a publication of the Makati Business Club (MBC).

The research, done by Dr. Maria Victoria Caparas, associate professor of the School of Management, presents the conclu-sions of the study on family-responsible poli-cies and practices in the Philippines and their outcomes on individuals and organizations. Using the IESE Family Responsible Employer Index (IFREI) crafted by the International Cen-ter for Work and the Family of the IESE Busi-ness School (Spain), Dr. Caparas demonstrated that an effective combination of work-family integration policies, supervisors support, and a corporate culture favorable to corporate fam-ily responsibility leads to a better employee well-being, higher satisfaction with work-family balance, more positive spillover from work to non-work domains, fewer turnover intentions, and greater perception of organiza-tional support.

The insights incorporated into the re-port indeed present valid arguments for in-stitutionalizing family-responsible practices and policies in the Philippines, especially in todays times of rapid economic growth and, consequently, increasing demands on the Fili-pino workforce, said Peter Angelo Perfecto, Executive Director of MBC, in his letter to Dr. Caparas.

The Makati Business Club is a private non-stock, non-profit business association composed of the largest and most dynamic cor-porations in the Philippines represented by its senior executives. The complete report, which includes case studies and other anecdotes on corporate family responsibility initiatives, can be found at http://www.ifrei.asia/publications.
