Vanishing AutoThis is the first in a series ofeight illusion plans contrib-uted to Genii by James P.Riser. They were originallysold through Riser CustomMagic. We appreciate this con-tribution as we know many ofour readers like to build theirown illusions. Next month,"The Stocks".

Effect: The curtains open on ablack draped stage with a largewhite net hanging in front of it. Themagician, dressed in a light-coloredoutfit, displays a bright new auto-mobile in the center of the stage. Theillusionist instructs the audience tokeep their eyes on the car. Sud-denly, there is a brilliant flash oflight and puff of smoke — the autohas vanished!Workings: As can be seen in the il-lustrations, this illusion is based onthe black art principle. A secretdrape conceals the car when the

flash pots go off. This drape is re-leased when the performer or an as-sistant pulls the fishline whichbreaks the retaining thread.

The effect can be heightened byhaving several girls on and in frontof the auto. The girls on it vanishwith the car. The girls in front of thefallen drape remain visible andappear to be startled at the auto'sdisappearance.

This illusion is extremely versa-tile. It can be used to vanish anylarge object from an auto to an ele-phant.
