A recent study* shows that eating one and a half ounces of dark chocolate that’s at least 70% cocoa every day for 2 weeks can reduce stress. You can also try chewing gum, which deviates your attention away from the stress and can also help to alleviate the stress hormone cortisol.

Psychologist Dr. Jen Hartstein recommends reducing your focus on what’s stressing you by creating a new sensation. Try holding a piece of ice in your hand for as long as you can. This exercise works similarly to a stress ball – it’s a physical distraction for your mind.

*Source of Stress Amongst P1 Children~ Stressed out and negligent parents, high expectations in academic or other performances,

~ Abused or deprived childhood, growing up tensions and demand for familial responsibility are the main causes of childhood stress.

~ Parents, who are not emotionally available for their children or lack positive coping mechanisms themselves, often spur stress in their offspring.

~ Demonstrate self-control and coping skills. He can benefit by seeing how you cope successfully with stress.

~ Compliment children when they do well, and don`t forget hugs and kisses. Unconditional care. Unselfish sacrifice. *Source: Survey of Schooling in Singapore 2009, MOE

Approach Stress Positively

(1) Do not make any form of comparison Eg. My child, my child’s teacher, my child’s

school, etc(2) Work with my child’s teacher closely but understand she is with 30 other children during school hour.(3) Assist my child to be consistent. Do not accumulate work till last minute(4) To nurture future khalifah fil ard, we have to be khalifah fil ard first !(5) There is no “Failure” only “Learning

Experience”
