0 Yellow Class News We have had a busy half term in Yellow Class. In English we read, analysed and converted several newspaper reports back into a plan. We investigated how to write catchy headlines and used puns (word play), alliteration and rhyme to write headlines that would catch the reader’s attention. We have also written newspaper articles from different points of view using journalistic language. Our Science topic has been a whirlwind of investigations, drama, English and not forgetting art and DT. In order to understand how we can hear, the classroom was transformed into a ginormous inside of an ear and the children were the sound vibrations. As sound vibrations the children had to travel under tables (ear canal) and through all the different parts of the ear and eventually to the brain to understand how we hear. To reinforce the learning the children built a 3D model of the inside of the ear with labels and clear explanations as to how the ear works. Now this was SOUND learning! We also investigated whether sound travels easier through solids liquids or through the air. The results were surprising. We also investigated pitch and used straws, elastic bands of various thickness, containers filled with different amounts of water to investigate high and low pitch. In maths we have been busy multiplying and dividing. We have used the grid method to multiply and also used known facts to mentally multiply. Dividing and multiplying whole numbers and decimals by 10 and 100 and chunking to divide were some of the methods and objectives we learned. In Art we have been printing and will now move on to learning about Vincent Van Gogh and use different mediums to sketch and paint in the style of Van Gogh. Cont…..
