ST. MARY & ST. JOSEPH PARISH PAGE 2 Serving Durand, Gaines & Surrounding Communities

From the Pen of the Pastor... Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, So often in preparing for Lent we are asked what will you be giving up? I would encourage you, before deciding on something to be asking the Lord what He wants for you. Our fasting and penance is only possible by His grace, so be sure to take some time for prayer

to discern what the Lord is calling you to. Ash Wednesday- we will have our usual 8:30am Mass at St. Joseph on Wednesday, as well as, an evening Mass at St. Mary at 6:30pm. We will be taking up a special collection to support Catholic Charities in Flint and the St. Luke’s New Life Center. What more fitting way to begin the Lenten season, than by partici-pating in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Stations and Adoration- Friday evening stations of the Cross will take place at St. Joseph. Adoration will begin at 6:30pm and will last until 8:00pm, with Sta-tions at 7:00pm. Please be sure to come spend some time with the Lord. I would encourage adding more prayer as a Lenten penance even before giving up something like chocolate. Confessions- during the Friday night adoration at St. Joseph, I will be in the confessional that whole time. (Other than March 8) Confession is an essential part of being a disciple of Jesus Christ, so be sure to take ad-vantage of this. As during Advent, we will not have the communal penance service, but this will be your oppor-tunity, along with the regularly scheduled times, to get to confession. Come and receive His mercy! May you have a blessed week walking with our Lord. Fr. Dan

The Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Prayer... ….Grant us, O Lord, we pray, that the course of our world may be directed by your peaceful rule and that your Church may rejoice, untroubled in her devotion. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, forever and ever. Amen. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SUFFERING OF ST. MARY & ST. JOSEPH

For those who are ill at home, in the hospital or in the nursing home.

Jeanette Borke, Shirley Kerchart, Grant Hopkins, Sam Stiff, Judy Strugdon, Tonya Waid, Kristin Bartes, Susie Bennets, Joyce Gardner-Lawton, Christine West, Dick Huhn, Jerome Kekel, and Alex Proulx. Please note: Individual names will remain on the prayer list for four (4) weekends, before being removed. If your illness is long term, your name should be put on the prayer board in the back of your church. St. Mary’s parish office 1-855-288-6704 or the St. Joseph’s office at 989-271-8434.

Pray for all men and women in the armed services.
