Background

The Digital Romania International Forum is the highest-level annual meeting of decision-makers and industry leaders in Romania. We shape the conversation and drive change in fields related to digital progress -- from smart manufacturing and industry to digital innovation and entrepreneurship. A digital Davos of Romania, the Forum is the place where top stakeholders set Romania’s digital agenda for the year to come, in consultation with European Commissioners, Heads of State, and Romania’s strategic partners.

The first edition was keynoted by Klaus Iohannis, President of Romania; Dacian Ciolos, Prime Minister of Romania; and Gunther Oettinger, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society. The second edition was keynoted by Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Digital Society and Economy; H.E. Hans G. Klemm, U.S. Ambassador to Romania; H.E. 2018 Context

Regionally-anchored and European-centric: The third edition of the Digital Romania International Forum, “Women leadership in Industry 4.0” takes place in the context of the Three Seas Initiative Summit – a President-level forum of 12 states focused on digital, energy, and and transportation infrastructure development.

Women-powered: Across Europe, the ICT sector is lagging behind dangerously in closing the gender gap. In 2016, there were more than four men to every woman employed in ICT in Europe (16.7% women) and the gender gap is widening. The drive to Industry 4.0 and the digital transformation of society and economy cannot happen without including half of the population in the process based on antiquated stereotypes and biases.

Action-oriented: Romania has the second highest representation of women in the digital sector in the EU, at 26.3% as of 2016. It is time for this subject to become a national, regional, and European priority -- and Romania, alongside the Three Seas member states, can lead the way, contributing to the development and progress of the Union.

TO TURN WOMEN PARTICIPATION AND LEADERSHIP IN THE DIGITAL FIELD INTO A NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PRIORITY In line with previous editions, the Forum is a platform for setting the industry tone and focus for the year to come.

TO STIMULATE CONCRETE PROJECTS FOR DIGITAL PROGRESS The forum brings together decision-makers with aligned objectives, who spearhead and commit to concrete projects in fields where digitalization is the key source of growth.

TO SHOWCASE WOMEN LEADERSHIP IN INDUSTRY 4.0 AND DIGITAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP The forum brings together top women leaders in the digital arena, from Romania and Europe, highlighting their contribution to key sectors in Industry 4.0 and entrepreneurship.

TO OFFER THREE SEAS INITIATIVE MEMBER STATES A CONCRETE MECHANISM TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE COHESION AND WELLBEING OF THE UNION The twelve states’ drive for a more efficient European integration can be fueled by a direct contribution to the Union through a common commitment to achieve gender-parity in the digital field.

TO CONSOLIDATE ROMANIA AS AN EXPORTER OF BEST PRACTICES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION The projects and actions Forum participants commit to will consolidate Romania’s rate of women participation in the digital workforce and occasion a Romanian contribution to European progress on this key issue.
