Revive of Hui communities and Social Mobility Social Welfare
Based on the Case Studies

Abstract: The Hui, an ethnic minority in China, is featured with its Islamic faith and wide distribution in China. The formation and development of the Hui in China's history are closely related to the Islamic faith, which is deeply believed. Although “acculturation phenomenon”of the Hui has appeared with a blending of the Chinese mainstream culture, the Hui has formed into a great variety of traits in various places of China. However, the Muslim culture has always been the center of the Hui and it is also the most important reason for them going through all kinds of hardships and makes them exist for a long time. In this paper, first is to backtrack the origin, development and cultural feature of the Hui in China's history. Second is to focus on describing the challenges and opportunities that the Hui of China face in the changing environment of market and globalization after China's reform and opening-up beginning from 1978. Specifically, take two communities as case studies. One is the Hui community in the rural village of B in Baoshan of Yunnan province, the other one is Muslim community in Yiwu of Zhejiang province. The purpose is to explore the chang and formation of the two communities in the trend of market economy and the new possibilities of development for the Hui communities. The impact of the market economy and the current of the urban redevelopment cause two phenomenon. On the one hand, the Hui community in urban areas are facing the collapse. On the other hand, the Hui, good at migration in the trend of market economy, seize the opportunity to revive their ethnical culture. In the background of market and globalization, the Hui is mingled with disintegration and revival. How the Hui of China will be survive and develop is an important issue that needs to be thought seriously. Key words: Hui, muslim, acculturation, market reform, mobility ,
