International celebration of Deaf culture and Deaf Awareness
Class-wide Project, test grade for contributing The goal is to promote understanding– what do the
hearing students/faculty need to know about Deaf Culture and ASL?
Some traditional activities: Make posters with some “cool” facts about ASL and Deaf
Culture (eg. Did you know that Lady Gaga, Johnny Depp, and
Natalie Portman all studied ASL?; Did you know that Thomas Edison was Deaf?)
Create/pass out alphabet cards or flyers at lunch time- we have one flyer already but you could change/improve it
Experience a “Deaf” day- go all day without signing (teachers are given notice ahead of time)
Create a short video and ask to show it on announcements one day
Ideas you want to do (any of these and/or others)?
