BUILDING A BETTER IOWA - WITH BRICK, BLOCK & STONE
SUBMISSION
All entries must comply
with ASTM C1232:
"masonry: the type of
construction made up of
manufactured masonry
units laid with mortar,
grout, or other methods
of joining" to qualify.
Each project submitted must provide photos and/or drawings to illustrate the masonry design, workmanship and installation details. Entries can be submitted on CD, flash drive or zip attachment emailed to jstephenson@ masonryinstituteofiowa.org. **NEW THIS YEAR** Upload your files and submit the entry fee online at www.masonryinstituteofiowa.org (under Awards).
Photos and drawings should include, at a minimum: • One view of each of the four exposed sides or elevations of the project• At least six close-up views of masonry details (the detail photos should clearly show the type of
masonry system used)• One view of the project's immediate environment• One view of the wall section
Entrants may submit more than the minimum photos required and are encouraged to submit plan details.
Mail or digitally submit the attached Photo Consent and Submittal Form with $50 payment per entry to Masonry Institute of Iowa. A confirmation email will be sent for all entries. Entries will be reviewed by the committee to validate entry prior to judging. Entry deadline is July 17th, 2018.

JUDGING All entries are judged by architects from outside Iowa. Projects are evaluated independently, not in competition with other entries, and will focus on the excellence of each individual project. Judging will be based on the following criteria:
• Creative use of masonry• Structural and architectural design• Proper masonry installation by a mason contractor• Technical innovations and their influence on design selection• Suitability of design to its environment
