At the age of 6 he was sent to school, but had to leave it at the age of 13 and never went to school again. His father who couldn’t even write was a glove-maker and William helped him in his trade. At the age of 18, he married Anne Hatheway. They had 3 children.

When Shakespeare was 21, he went to London and became an actor. He began to work in the modern theatre “Globe”. 14 years later he became a part owner of the Globe theatre in London.

Shakespeare wrote154 sonnets, 37 plays: 17 comedies, 10 historical plays and 7 books of poems. He wrote “Romeo and Juliet”, “Hamlet”, “Othello”, “King Lear”, “Macbeth” and others. But only 18 of them were published in his lifetime.

Shakespeare spent the last years of his life at Stratford, where he died, on the same date as his birthday, the 23rd of April 1616.

He was buried in the church of Stratford. A monument was opened to the memory of the great playwright in the Poet’s Corner in Westminster Abbey.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?Thou art more lovely and more temperate.Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,And often in his gold complection dimm’d;And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm’d;But thy eternal summer shall not fade,Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,When in eternal lines to time thou growest:So long as men can breath or eyes can see,So long lives this and this gives life to thee.

Sonnet №90Look in my glass, and tell the face thou viewestNow is the time that face should form another;Whose fresh repair if now thou not renewest,Thou dost beguile the world, unbless some mother. For where is so fair whose unear’d wombDisdains the tillage of thy husbandry?Or who is he so fond will be the tombOf his self-love, to stop posterity?Thou art thy mother’s glass, and she in theeCalls back the lovely April of her prime:So thou through windows of thine age shall seeDespite of wrinkles this thy golden time. But if thou live, remember’d not to be,Die single, and thine image dies with thee.
