ARE YE ABLE?

How is God calling you to serve?

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are va-rieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of work-ing, but it is the same God who inspires them in every one. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Mid-Year opportunities to serve the Lord abound!

Please prayerfully consider whether it would please God to share your gifts in one of these areas:

Vice Chair Church Council

Alternate Lay Member to the Annual Conference Session

Financial Secretary

Pastor/Staff Parish Relations Committee

Sunday School Assistant to the Superintendent

Nursery Coordinator

Head Usher

Ushers

Liturgists

Guest Musicians

Something else God may have mentioned to you?

IN OUR PRAYERS

Please Pray . . .

For those facing illness or undergoing tests. For those who are homebound. For all those serving in the military. For those who struggle with some form of addiction. For all those who are hungry and struggling in our world. For peace around our world and for all those places torn by

conflict and violence.

INTRODUCING

CENTENNIAL’S NEW ACCOMPANIST

THE REV. RICK SCHLOSSER

The Rev. Dr. Rick Schlosser is the Executive Director of the California Council of Churches and California Church IMPACT and has been involved in ecumenical and interfaith ministry for over 35 years. Rick has served churches in New York, Ohio and California as both pastor and minister of music. Rick has been a choral conductor, vocal coach, director of music, and music teacher for over 40 years, including serving as minister of worship and music at two Bay Area United Methodist churches. His business background is in project management and non-profit administration as well as broad experience as a New Media Publisher for a national soccer media company. Rick holds five degrees, including music education (B.A.), sacred music/organ (B.Mus.), choral conducting (M.A.), an M.Div., and the Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a former director of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice of Northern California, and past national co-president of the Methodist Federation for Social Action. He has two daughters and recently retired after almost 9 years as senior pastor of a community church in Lake County.

Rick is very happy and blessed to be back at Centennial after many years as music director for The Journey (making him Centennial’s longest serving staff member), and hopes to make a positive contribution to the fine music traditions at Centennial, even though he knows Gerlene’s organ shoes will be a challenge to fill! Rick loves Centennial’s commitment to justice, diversity, and inclusiveness and looks forward to learning and growing with the Centennial family towards creating a Beloved Community.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

FIVE TIPS FOR DADS By Brenda Cunningham 1. Guide your children toward a relationship with their heavenly father. Show them the love of the God you serve by being a godly man yourself. Let them see you praying, reading his word and living the faith you claim. Walk the talk. 2. Show genuine respect and love for the mother of your children. Nothing will make your kids feel more secure in love and acceptance than seeing you cherish their mom. Boys, especially, need to see how a godly man loves a woman. 3. Remember that love is the motivation for discipline. Dads discipline because they love. The two are inseparable. Seek to guide, mold and correct - all with a gentle spirit of fairness and acceptance. 4. Spend time with your kids. In your children’s eyes, time spent with them is the measure of your love. Show them they’re high on your list by giving them time. There’s no substitute. 5. Demonstrate your affection. Hug, kiss and offer a kind word. Every day tell your children you love them and then show you mean it with your actions. Senior Pastor: Mark McAdow First Church United Methodist Church Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

A Father’s Day Prayer

On this Father’s Day, we give thanks for all fathers

who accept their role to nurture, love, teach, and lead

their children.

For fathers struggling with their vocation, give them

encouragement.

For fathers separated from their children, give them

strength.

For fathers who have lost children, hold them in your

arms.

As the perfect Father of all, bless and sustain all who

care for children as you care for us.

Amen. David Maxwell Gathering Voices: Faithful Conversations from the Thoughtful Christian June 15, 2014

Love to knit? Want to learn how? Want to be part of a caring ministry? Join this cheerful group of knitters on the 3rd Wednesday of the month to make prayer shawls. Shawls….made for centuries, universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclu-sive, unconditionally loving God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give sol-ace, mother, hug, shelter and beauti-fy. Those who have received these shawls have been uplift-ed and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles…

From Cindy Kazee: Thank you for the support and interest given to the JFK Robotics team for their travel to St. Louis for the World Championships in April. The team did well, but didn't make it out of the qualification rounds into finals as we would have hoped. In the end, we ranked 25th out the 76 teams in our division, and were a runner-up for the safety award.

The league is made up of nearly 3,000 teams in 17 countries. JFK is ranked in the top 5% of teams worldwide, so we are pretty proud of what the kids accomplished. Now they know what they need to do to earn a spot at the competition next year and are already hard at work planning a return trip.

Personally, Dennis and another volunteer drove more than 4,400 miles, without any major delays or mishaps. I flew with 15 teenagers, and other than narrowly missing the flight in both directions, managed to return home with the group intact. We were able to visit a couple of museums and tour the Arch during our visit, too.

None of this would have been possible without the huge outpouring of support from our community. Thank you!
