Title: Analysis of a Simple Plane Truss

**Part 1

Scenario

Your company designs and manufactures precision plane trusses. As a design engineer your ask to analyze and complete the design given below by determining a suitable cross section for trusses AB and BC.

 

Perform a theoretical analysis of your truss design by completing the following steps:

1. Constructing and FBD for the truss assembly2. Based on a static analysis and a factor of safety of 1.5 determine

the minimum cross-sectional area.3. Propose a suitable cross-section for this project

A) Part File containing your analysisB) Word Document containing  the following based on Report Template:

Write a report to your manager containing the following information:

1. All hand calculations from Part 1 above as an appendix to your report.

1. A model of the Beam in SolidWorks Simulation.

Use Beam Element in your analysis

1. Compare FEA results with your manually calculated stress and deflection results. Report percent error for ALL results.

 

1. Determine a commercially available truss members that match your analysis above. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you consider cost as part of your selection process.

 

1. Your executive summary must contain an overview of your results and a recommendation for your design based on material and cross-section of selected truss members.
