Guide to Making a Digital Contact Sheet

Digital contact sheets for visual assignments should be uploaded to the course Dropbox folder. To create a digital contact sheet, follow these steps:

Open Photoshop and the Following Menus:

File —> Automate —> Contact Sheet II

After selecting Contact Sheet II, the dialogue box on the left will open.

Under Source Images, choose folder from the drop down menu and “choose” to locate the folder on your computer or hard drive. Under document, choose width 8” and 10.5” for height. Since these contact sheets will just be viewed online and not printed, 72 can be chosen for resolution and Color Profile can be sRGB. (Note, if you plan to print these for yourself, choose 360 dpi and Adobe RGB 1998 as profile).

In the thumbnails section, put 4 under columns and 5 un-der rows (this will give you 20 thumbnails per page. It is not recommended to have moe images than this per page as the images will be too small.

Check the box to use filename as caption. select any font and size (smaller is better so as to not distract from your images).

Once you hit okay, Photoshop will automatically generate the contact sheets- be patient- this can take a little while. Once the contact sheets have been generated, save each page. Since these will be viewed online and not printed, you can save them as either PDFs or JPEGs. (If you are printing them, they should be TIFF Files). Upload to Drop-box.
