Speaker Presentation Subject Speaker Bio Keynote: Alan Mallory PMP, P.Eng, P.E.

Workshop:

Project Everest: Essential Steps for Successful ProjectsClimbing Mount Everest is considered one of humanity’s greatest feats of endurance. The grueling expedition to the top of the world’s highest peak is a project filled with unparalleled physical and mental challenges and some of the roughest, most extreme conditions imaginable. In 2008, Alan Mallory took on the challenge and set a world record with three other members of his family after an incredible self-guided expedition on the mountain. The expedition challenged the mental, emotional and physical limits of their entire beings and at every stage of the ascent demanded an unwavering commitment to resilience and perseverance. The underlying message is about how we as project managers need to reach new heights in the way we think and the actions we take in order to continuously improve ourselves and advance our profession. Alan creates a powerful and unforgettable journey for his audience by integrating captivating mountaineering and adventure stories with his innovative leadership and project management experience.

Age of Agile: A Hybrid Approach to Agile Project ManagementThroughout this interactive workshop, participants will explore various elements of agility and related agile methodologies from a unique perspective that encourages innovative thinking and application of agile techniques. It is based on a hybrid approach to agile project management which combines agile practices with traditional waterfall methodologies. The material builds on the Project Everest framework presented during Alan’s keynote and is a more in-depth analysis of the fundamentals of agile project management and following an iterative and adaptive approach. The underlying messages are focused around developing an effective team, overcoming conflicts and communication barriers in agile teams and putting people first, which is the foundation of high performance, profits and long-term success Through short group discussions and hands-on exercises, participants will explore elements from each of the PMI domains for agile projects and will gain a better understanding of the governing principals and knowledge that support an agile approach to project management.

This presentation is applicable for an intermediate level of project management experience.

Alan is an international speaker, author and professional development coach who is passionate about human performance and leadership. He graduated from Queen’s University and has worked all over the world as a mechanical engineer and project manager in the field of custom machine design. In this role he designed and implemented many patented solutions primarily in the mining and metallurgical smelting industry. His love for innovation is complimented by his true passion: working with people to reach new heights in the way we think and the actions we take. Alan has always had a keen interest in discovering what drives us to do what we do and how we can use this knowledge to improve our lives and the lives of those around us. Alan is also an avid adventurer and outdoor enthusiast who enjoys many different activities but his favorite are those spent out in the wilderness and those that involve strategy and problem solving. In the spring of 2008, he and his family set a world record after an incredible self-guided expedition on Mount Everest. He delivers a number of exciting presentations and training programs that are all about embracing and working through challenges as well as exploring the skills and mindsets that allow great leaders and committed teams to achieve breakthrough performance.

Finding Your Project Management RhythmI took the helm as project manager on the New Mexico One-Stop Business Portal project as it entered the planning phase in 2016. Initiation activities had been completed by my predecessor, who was moving on to a new challenge supporting a large commercial client. In terms of scope and cost, this project was not particularly large but had a lot of moving parts, a substantial variety of stakeholders and lots of political exposure.

Developed some practices and a rhythm that served me well.

Find the high ground; go there immediately; be a dog on a bone

Moving the football is all that matters Do what it takes to keep the sponsor and

stakeholders informed Do a daily plan; be a step ahead of every meeting

This environment required an elevated level of drive and discipline to succeed.

Let's put your PM exam memory and skills to the test and let's have some fun too. So what does a racy romantic movie have anything in common with project management, leadership and the PMI triangle? Let's see if you can scope it out. Decisions have consequences, dilemmas - right, wrong or indifferent. No matter where you are in this journey as a professional- be it just starting out or seasoned, you decide where it applies and how. Will you walk away with more than just a PDU? Can you walk away with a different perspective, an aha moment or an oh sh**t moment? Then what are you willing to aspire to become out there in the field as we are all called to do as our commitment and promise to uphold after studying, taking, and passing the exam? - you decide.

Matt Proctor Using Radical Alignment for Optimum Success in Project Management To successfully manage a project, two things must happen: the project team must all be on the same page, and the project must be in alignment with the overall goals of the organization. Attempting to manage a project within a “silo” that does not take into account the needs, goals and objectives of other parts of an organization can be a recipe for long-term failure even if you bring the project in on time and on budget. Today’s organizations are complicated. Really complicated. Every component of an organization depends on many other components for success. To deliver maximum results, it is imperative to understand how each component and each silo works together and to align them to a common goal. When you take on a project assignment, there is enormous potential to not just incrementally improve one area of an organization, but to radically change the organization by understanding and leveraging your work holistically. The key is Radical Alignment. Intentionally driving every part of your organization toward providing efficient, effective operations while containing costs and building employee engagement

For the last 17 years, Matt Procter has made it his personal and corporate mission to help organizations ideally align every aspect of their operation to achieve remarkable impact and efficiency. As president of Improve Group, he has worked with world-class teams in the private, institutional and military sectors to achieve maximum potential. A graduate of the University of New Mexico Anderson School of Management, he has lead Improve Group’s expansion from Albuquerque to engagements throughout the U.S. and Europe. Conflict Management and other Leadership Opportunities You now have your PMP and have been on several projects gaining experience as a project manager. You have done so well in the past that your boss now offers you a project where you are the lead PMP. As you progress with planning your project you, are given a project team, you have a budget that you will contract out implementation of the project work, and you have a reporting chain where you report progress. As you move forward you start to see project conflicts. These conflicts or issues can be within your staff, contractors, and managers. You will encounter conflicts. Plan on it. Each of us have different and unique personalities, however there are commonalities we all share. During this presentation we will take a quick study categorizing personality styles. This study has been developed through work by other researchers and psychologists and draws heavily on work by Briggs-Myers and others. The professional system we will use is called True Colors which uses four primary colors to designate personality types and behavioral styles. The True Colors program was designed to maximize the application of psychological style in the workplace, in the family, in education and in other types of communities. This model is

For most project managers, Earned Value (EV) predictions are performed using performance averages. When we predict EV using averages, we lose the ability to quantify risk as well as best and worst-case scenarios. Incorporating EV metrics into a statistical analysis and simulating using Monte Carlo methodologies will better equip project managers to predict future performance and make management decisions based on statistical likelihood and risk. This presentation will present an overview of Earned Value Management and how Sandia National Lab’s project managers use EVM to manage multi-million-dollar national defense projects.
