Welcome to the Tomb of the Lost Queen Walkthrough. If it’s your first time to play any Nancy Drew game, then start on Amateur sleuth/Junior Detective because the puzzles are easier. However, if it’s not your first Nancy Drew game, choose whatever difficulty you want. All spoilers that appear in this walkthrough will be in red, italicized, and have the word “spoiler” in front of them.

A Sandy Entrance

Nancy is in Egypt to job shadow Professor Jon Boyle, who’s in charge of excavating a site that might lead to the Lost Queen, Nefertari.

When Nancy arrives at the campsite, a sandstorm hits it. Then, on the right, there’s a lightning strike and Professor Boyle, the dig crew leader, is hit. Nancy automatically goes into the tent and sees Boyle on the ground unconscious. He goes to the hospital and most of the team leaves the site because of the curse placed on the tomb. Soon, Nancy’s talking on the phone with Boyle and he says that he was attacked from behind. It wasn’t from the lightning strike Nancy saw earlier. Talk to him until Nancy doesn’t have anything else to say.

Then go into the main tent and look around. Look at the game in the middle of the room. Then go to Nancy’s bunk and take the hieroglyph dictionary and the practice book. Look through the other glyph book and the book on Nancy’s nightstand that’s by Professor Beatrice Hotchkiss. Then look at the middle bunk on Nancy’s right. It’s empty, so head over to the end bunk. This is Dr. Abdullah Bakhoum’s bunk. Try look at the trunk, but Lily, who has the middle bunk on Nancy’s left, won’t let Nancy. Then look at the empty bunk on Nancy’s left. Then try looking at Boyle’s bunk that’s on the end farthest from the door. Lily will stop Nancy from looking at it and start talking to her. She’ll tell Nancy that she’s in charge since Boyle’s gone. Tell her that that’s fine with Nancy and that Boyle wants Nancy to look through his stuff. Lily won’t be completely fine with the fact that Nancy will be going through people’s stuff, but she’ll let Nancy look through Boyle’s—and only Boyle’s. Head back to Boyle’s trunk and take the lighter. Look through the Franklin Ross’s recommendation to Boyle about Nancy. Then go to Boyle’s nightstand and look through his notes. It seems like some of the notes on the last page are missing.

Exit the main tent and head over to the antiquities tent, the smaller one closer to the ginormous hole in the ground that’s the entrance and stairs to the temple. Look to the left and take the site map, the flashlight, the bird tile, and the art book on the table. Look at the piece of rock with glyphs on it. Use the glyph dictionary to translate the rock. Read the notes to the right of the water bottle. Apparently Sonny Joon was working at the campsite. Back away and move to the shelving unit. Look at the book on the unit and notice that it has a grid of the site. Then go the table on the right. Look at the list of amulets that were found by the team. Pick up the axe and the brush in the middle of the table. Then go look at the amulet pieces behind the water bottles. Put the pieces back together to make a cat. When Nancy’s done, there will be a piece missing. Take a look at the tag on the bottom left corner of the mat. It says N13E2. Look at the site grid again notice that it’s in the middle tunnel (tunnel 2) in the right corner that’s farthest from the entrance.

Head over to the tomb and enter into the main area. Look at the workspace and take the shovel. Turn around and talk to Abdullah, the local archeologist. He claims that this is his site. Talk to him until Nancy has nothing else to say. Then climb the ladder and use the glyph dictionary to translate the glyphs. Then enter tunnel 2 and go to the place where the other cat amulet pieces were found. Use the brush on the pile of sand in the corner and discover the missing piece. Look at the bird mural and use the pick axe to get the second bird tile loose. Go back to the antiquities tent and place the missing piece where it belongs on the amulet. Grab the amulet and keep it in Nancy’s inventory.

The Tomb

Go back into the tomb and go into tunnel 3, the one on the right. In the first part of the corridor, look at the scarab puzzle on Nancy’s left. The red scarab tile is missing. Back away from the puzzle and look at the glyphs on the wall that’s to the right of the door Nancy’s looking at. The glyphs can’t be translated with Nancy’s dictionary. She’ll have to translate this herself. Use the context as hints to put letters in the right places. Also, start with small, repeating words with common words (i.e. the, and).

Spoiler:

Come ye hither gods in the train of HorusAnd let the steps ascendWe are the four of Horus

I am the air that sweeps up the NileI am the hunter who faces to greet the new day

I am Imsety protector of the SouthI am the cry that soars towards the setting sun

Together we the gods in the train of Horus guard the corners.

Nancy needs to learn more about Horus and the four gods in his train. Go to the end of the tunnel and look to the puzzle on the left. The goal is to get a message in the blue area at the bottom. The tiles are only revealed when there is only one tile in each of the columns above. Each of the blocks slides left and right. When Nancy’s done, it should look like this:

Nancy will see a panel open and a sealed door appear when she completes the puzzle. Head back to the puzzle and translate it using Nancy’s dictionary. There’s a queen buried in the tomb. Break the seal and go through the door and use the flashlight to see. Suddenly Lily appears and starts looking around. Then Abdullah and two other people appear and start doing the same. Abdullah finds some glyphs near the door, says it’s the curse and wants to examine it. But Nancy’s flashlight goes out and Abdullah tells everyone to leave the room.

More Hieroglyphs and the Scarab Puzzle

Nancy’s back in the main tent. Lily and Abdullah went to back to the places where they will normally be found. Talk to Lilly about the curse. Then head outside and talk to Dylan Carter, a British tour guide. He’s not technically supposed to be here, but no one’s bothering to kick him out. Get the pantheon list from him. Go to the water tank and pick up the oil that’s next to it. Go into the antiquities tent and put the flashlight back into the holder Nancy got it from. The wires behind it will spark and short circuit. Nancy will need to find a different light source to look into the tomb.

Head into the tomb and go to the end of tunnel 2. Talk to Jamila, an Egyptian who believes that the aliens built the pyramids. She also mentions Sonny Joon, the doodler and alien “expert.” Jamila got hooked into aliens when she took Sonny’s “Are You Alien or Ale-out” course. Nancy says that she’s seen some of his stuff (mostly doodles), but has never met him. When Nancy’s done talking to Jamila, go to the place where she found the missing piece to the cat amulet. Pick up the red scarab tile.

Go back to the main part of the tomb and talk to Abdullah. Save the question about Jamila for last. When Nancy asks about what Abdullah thinks about Jamila, he says that he doesn’t like her and leaves the room and tries to kick her out of the site. While they’re arguing, look at the glyphs that Abdullah has been looking at. Use the glyph dictionary to translate some of the message. However, not all of it’s translated. Nancy has to translate that part herself. Translate the glyphs like Nancy did with the other glyphs. Look for similarities and start with small words.

Spoiler: Here’s the answer. “This is the tomb of Nefertari.”

Is it possible that this is the real tomb of Nefertari?

Go to the Scarab puzzle in tunnel 3. Nancy will automatically place the red scarab tile on the board. She’ll also mention that the color might have something to do with solving the puzzle. The goal of the puzzle is to put the tiles on the spaces that have the corresponding color. The hardest part is knowing which one to do first. Pick the one that will be the hardest to get to its space. When Nancy’s finished, another puzzle will open up on the other side of the hallway. First Nancy needs to find the pieces and then put them in the right place.

Spoiler: Move the tiles in this order. Amateur sleuth: Red, Green, Black, White. Master sleuth: Red, Black, White, Green.

Let There Be Light... and Glyphs?

Since Nancy’s right next to the tomb, enter it and then turn around. Go to the lamp and put in the oil and then light it using Boyle’s lighter. Nancy mentions that she needs to light the entire room… with one lamp. She immediately looks at the mirrors that she can see through the hole behind the lamp. The goal is to get the light from the source to the other side of the room of mirrors. It should look something like this when it’s done:

(Photo from TMB’s walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

Now the entire tomb is lit up. Look at the curse above the lamp. Nancy needs to translate it—her dictionary won’t help her here. Solve these glyphs like the other two glyphs that Nancy translated. When she reads the translation, she won’t be happy because the curse is on her. She was the one who broke the seal.

Spoiler: Here’s the translation. “As for the one who broke the seal agonies of death await you.”

Turn around to the sarcophagus and try to lift the lid. It’s too heavy for Nancy to lift by herself. But then she hears a crash that came from the tomb’s entrance. Turn around and then left. Pick up the spears and look at the impression in the wall. Something’s missing from it. Then go to the corner with the box in it—the one across from the lamp. Open the box up and each of the urns. Grab each of the coins that come out of the urns. Go to the main entrance of the tomb and see that the scaffolding has fallen down around Abdullah. Talk to Abdullah about the scaffolding, then get the plank from the fallen scaffolding

and go back to the sarcophagus. Use the plank and the spears to open the sarcophagus’ lid. There’s a coffin inside, which is locked. The only way to unlock it is by solving the glyphs and the puzzle on the bottom. Solve the glyphs first, just like Nancy did with the other glyphs.

Spoiler:

The procession of godsBegins the reveal

Seek them outUnder the protection

of the heavens

The bottom puzzle is solved only if Nancy knows where to place the gods. She needs to figure out where the “heavens” are in order to know which god goes where.

The Sons of Horus and Placement of the Gods

Leave the tomb and look at the puzzle on the left, the one that the scarab puzzle opened. Nancy now has the “Sons of Horus”—the four tokens—to fill the circles. Put the tokens in their proper places. The glyphs about the Sons of Horus and Dylan’s chart will help Nancy figure out where each token belongs. Nancy will hear a click when the tokens are in the right place. Here’s where they should be when Nancy’s done:

(Photo from TMB’s Walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

Now the tokens turn in their spots. Turn one of them and then go back to the main room of the tomb. The columns moves, but where should they lead? Talk to Abdullah about the columns. He’ll be amazed that they can do that. Go back to the token puzzle and reset it. Notice the picture in the middle, the one with the columns. It looks like Nancy needs to make a staircase, the lowest one being no higher than the scaffolding. Turn the tokens until Nancy has the columns in the positions in the picture. Nancy can go between the token puzzle and the main tomb room as long as she needs to.

Spoiler: Here’s one solution. Falcon, Falcon, Falcon, Baboon, Human.

When Nancy done, climb up the scaffolding and then jump the columns. Translate the glyphs over the door and grab the journal notes that are on the floor. It’s from the earlier expedition—the one that searched the site sixty years ago. Go to the end of the tunnel and look at the mural. This is the picture that shows Nancy where to place the gods in the puzzle on the coffin in the tomb. Write down where each one is and their positions. Then turn around and head back to the entrance of the tunnel. Lily and Abdullah are arguing about something. When they’re done, head back down to the entryway and talk to Abdullah about the argument. Then talk to Lily about it. She’ll ask Nancy to sort the amulets in the antiquities tent. Do that later.

Go to the coffin and position the gods where they belong. Reference Dylan’s chart if necessary. It should look like this when it’s done:

Amateur Sleuth:

(Photo from TMB’s walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

Master Sleuth:

(Photo from TMB’s walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

The coffin opens up to reveal another, smaller coffin with another hieroglyph and another puzzle. Like the bigger coffin, the hieroglyph will give a hint to the puzzle beneath it.

Amulets and the Second Coffin

Translate the glyphs on the coffin. It should be getting easier as it goes, since Nancy’s getting more used to it. Then look at the puzzle. Nancy needs to find out who the sons and daughters were of Nefertari.

Spoiler:

Seven treasures of her makingFour to lead the peopleThree to follow her path

Divided by duty old preceding youngRecall them here and reach within

Exit the tomb and go to the antiquities tent. Look inside the wooden box that’s on the right table. It’s where Lily wants Nancy to sort the amulets. Nancy should know mostly where each of the amulets go by now because of the reading she’s done. If she needs help, look at Dylan’s list. Here’s what it should look like at the end:

(Photo from TMB’s Walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

Nancy will notice that one of the amulets, the jackal, is missing. She’ll also notice the tear in the back of the tent that’s behind the tie hanging from the shelf. Head outside and go towards the boxes that are near the antiquities tent. Look at the tear and then dig through one of the crates using the shovel and discover a black market note. Then go to the water tank and notice that the tank has been cut by a metal object and is now empty. Someone did it on purpose. Talk to Dylan and see if he saw anyone doing that. Then go talk to Lily about everything that Nancy can.

Call Professor Hotchkiss because she’ll know the names of Nefertari’s children. Ask her to name the children in order of birth. Hotchkiss will separate them by gender automatically. When Nancy asks about the girls, Hotchkiss will ask Nancy for some information about the tomb. She’ll ask which god is above the doors in the main room of the tomb (the entryway/main chamber). The answer is Ma’at. When Nancy’s done talking to Hotchkiss, go back to the coffin. Using the names Hotchkiss gave Nancy, Boyle’s notes, Dylan’s chart, and the journal entry Nancy found to help put the symbols in the right places.

The coffin is unlocked, but it’s empty. Well, almost empty. There’s some papyrus scraps at the bottom of it. Look closely at the scraps and put them together. It would help Nancy if she turned each piece around so that they’re all right side up. When Nancy has put all of the scraps back together, there will be… (*drumroll*)… more glyphs! Yay! (Kidding) Like all of the other glyphs before, translate the papyrus glyphs.

Spoiler:

On the wings of rebirthFrom a treasured companion

And protect from evil in carnelianKnowledge abounds in lapis

While amethyst makes her royalThe true tomb is revealed

The note mentions another tomb… and another puzzle. But Nancy’s one step closer to finding out who’s tomb it is.

Jamila’s Bag

She’ll ask what’s going on and Nancy will answer that she opened the sarcophagus. Jamila will leave to look at it and see if it’s related to the Annunaki, the supposed aliens who supposedly built the pyramids, and leaves Nancy alone in the room with Jamila’s bag. It’s locked, of course. Go back to the antiquities tent and look at Sonny’s alien pamphlet again. Notice the Horus eye at the top of the front page and the big numbers in the pamphlet. The Horus eye has special numbers assigned to each of the parts (i.e. 1/16, 1/8) Go back to Jamila’s bag. If she returned, Nancy can distract her again by telling her something. Press the parts of the Horus eye on the lock. When Nancy has pressed the correct parts, the bag will open. Look through the bag and notice the space ships. One of them must have been used to crack the water tank. Then look at the books. One of them is a book titled “Visitors from the Skies” by Sonny Joon and the other book is titled “Historical Ancient Egypt.” Why is Jamila doing with an archaeological book? Pick up the page next to the wallet.

Then leave and talk to Dylan. He’ll give Nancy part of a torn page that Jamila dropped. It’s the top of the page that Nancy found in Jamila’s bag and will automatically be put with it. Look at the page and Nancy has another puzzle to solve. The goal is to make a word on each of the rows of jumbled letters. All of the words are Egypt related and hidden in each row. Place the correct letters in each of the rows to spell the words.

Spoiler: Here’s where each of the letters go. Amateur Sleuth: First Column: M, P, L, R, I, Y, N, U. Second Column: E, G, A, O, S, T, C, B. Master Sleuth: First Column: B, M, I, P, S, Y, O, U. Second Column: T, N, C, G, L, R, A, E.

When Nancy’s done, she’ll notice that she’ll need to rearrange the letters in order to get the final, unscrambled message. The sides have colors on them, so that’s why Nancy will automatically put certain letters on the lines. Rearrange the letters so that they make words and then put them in the correct spots on the lines below to make the message.

Spoiler: Blue cat opens tomb.

Nancy will have to find a blue cat somewhere to open the tomb.

Distracting Lily and Dylan’s Credentials

Talk to Dylan again and ask him to help Nancy distract Lily. He said he’ll do that only after Nancy puts a good word for him to Abdullah. Go into the main chamber and talk to Abdullah about Dylan. He doesn’t agree with Nancy about Dylan. Head back to Dylan and tell him about what Abdullah said. He said that he’ll figure something else out to make Abdullah let him in and that he’ll distract Lily. Nancy and Dylan will agree on a warning signal and he’ll set off to distract Lily. Look in Dylan’s bag and at his credentials. It seems that he’s not being entirely honest about what he’s doing. Then look at the snake bag. What’s that doing in there?

Go back to the main tent and look at Lily’s trunk. It’s locked with a specific code. Look at the manuel that Nancy sees when she’s looking down at the trunk. Nancy needs to find a couple of number panels that tell Nancy how many squares are supposed to be in a block. Then go look at Lily’s sunglasses and notice that a rhinestone is missing. Then go look at Abdullah’s trunk. It’s locked, so Nancy will have to find the key. Then head back outside and talk to Dylan, who didn’t give his signal. He gives the excuse that the air’s to dry to give it. Talk to him about his credentials. He says that all tour guides have multiple credentials. Then call Professor Boyle and give him an update. Ask him if tour guides are supposed to have multiple credentials. He tells Nancy that, as far as he knows, that they’re not supposed to have more than one. Also tell him about the water tank. He’ll try to get another tank out there ASAP.

The Cat Tomb

Head back into the tomb and go to the end of tunnel 1. Nancy will see a blue cat that’s mentioned in Jamila’s puzzle. Use the brush to take some of the sand away from the wall. Nancy will discover an indentation in the wall. Place the cat amulet in the indentation and a door will open. Dylan appears to take a lead in the exploration of the dark room, but ends up setting something off and getting himself trapped under a lot of rocks. Nancy needs to relieve some tension by removing some of the rocks, but not make all of the rocks unstable and crash down on Dylan. The goal is to take six rocks from the doorway. Take the some of the rocks on the edges of the doorway that will still keep the support up so that it won’t crash down on Dylan. After Nancy does this, the ambulance will come and get Dylan out and to the hospital. Talk to Boyle about the accident and then call Dylan. He’s not doing too well, but will tell Nancy that there’s some hidden compartment in Jamila’s bag. Then go talk to Lily about the accident. Go to tomb at the end of tunnel 1. Light the lamb using the oil and the lighter. Then light the whole room by placing and rotating mirrors. When Nancy’s done, it should look like this:

(Photo from TMB’s walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

Head inside the cat tomb and open the sarcophagus. Take the pendant off of the cat mummy and then look at the base of the bier and view the puzzle. Translate the glyphs and then look at the puzzle itself.

Spoiler: In the hall of two truths/They shall be judged/Only the one found to be/As light as the feather of Ma’at/Unburdened as the others/Shall open the threshold

Nancy has to find out which mouse is the lightest. This puzzle done by trial and error by placing mice on the scales and weighing them against the other mice. When the lightest mouse is found, place it in the hole in the center of the puzzle. An opening will appear underneath the puzzle. Take the journal notes

and look at the cat’s name: Meskhenet. Look at the bird puzzle on the ceiling. Some of the tiles are missing. Nancy will have to find the last one and solve the puzzle later.

The True Tomb Revealed

Go to the tomb in tunnel 3. Place the pendant in the indentation in the wall and look at the puzzle. There are different colored cobras that can go in certain directions depending on where they are. Solve the puzzle using the glyphs on the papyrus in the empty sarcophagus. Here’s what it’s supposed to look like when Nancy’s finished with the puzzle:

(Photo from TMB’s walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

Spoiler: Here’s the order to move the cobras. Amateur Sleuth: red, purple, gold, green, blue, gold, purple, red, blue, green, purple, gold, red, blue, green. Master Sleuth: red, blue, green, red, blue, purple, green, purple, blue, red, gold.

Nancy will watch another door open up across the room. Go through the opening and look at the statue on the left. Translate the glyphs that are on the stone it’s holding.

Spoiler: The Path Lies in Destiny.

Look at the path between Nancy and the sarcophagus. Nancy has to be extra careful about which stone she steps on. The riddle gives Nancy the clue she needs, but she doesn’t know what it means. Call Professor Hotchkiss and ask her about the riddle. She said that Nefertari’s cat’s name (Meskhenet) means Destiny. This means that Nancy needs to step on the stones that have the symbols to the word “Destiny.” Step on these stones to get across:

(Photos from TMB’s walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

Then look at the golden sarcophagus. Notice the symbols that Nancy’s seen earlier on the game Senet that’s in the main tent. Take the last bird tile that’s needed for the bird puzzle in the cat tomb. Go out the new exit, which is an opening in the wall to the right of the path that Nancy entered through. Look at the locked exit on the way out. Head to the main entrance and talk to Abdullah. He’ll go inspect the new sarcophagus. Take the key that’s hanging on the scaffolding.

The Bird Puzzle and Tunnel 4

Head back over to the bird puzzle in the cat tomb. Nancy will automatically put the bird tiles when she looks up at the puzzle. Use the bird mural at the end of tunnel 2 and the journal entries Nancy found to solve the puzzle. When Nancy knows which bird to press, then it would be in the following order:

(Photo from TMB’s walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

A new opening will appear. Explore the tunnel and pick up the numbers panel on the ground and the journal note on the broken vase. Examine the footprints and look at the rhinestone. Someone has been in the tunnel recently.

Jamila’s Secret Compartment and Lily’s and Abdullah’s Trunks

Go back to tunnel 3 and talk to Jamila. Say that she needs to go see something in another part of the tomb. When she’s gone, go to her back and take everything out. Then open the secret compartment and look at the newspaper at the bottom. Head back to the main tent and hear the sound of a snake. Go to Nancy’s bunk and find the snake on her bed. Take the stick and the trashcan that’s in her bunk and use it to capture the snake. She’ll automatically put the trash can outside of the tent. Head back into the tent and look at Abdullah’s trunk. . Read the letters about Jamila and Lily. He’s been checking up on Jamila to see if she’s really an alien fanatic. He also knows that Lily’s school record isn’t as clean as Lily makes it appear. Why’s he giving Lily another chance?

Go talk to Jamila about the alien stuff. It turns out that she’s been faking it so she can explore the tomb without her true identity being discovered. Head back to the tent and talk to Lily. Ask her about the symbols on the Senet game and then about her school record. Do it in that order. Go talk to Jamila again and make her tell Nancy about who she really is. She’ll give Nancy another number panel that belongs to Lily. Head back to the tent and distract Lily. Then look at Lily’s trunk. Numbers are already on there because of the panels Nancy got from Jamila and found in the tunnel. The goal is to meet the number requirements and fill all of the squares. Nancy can only fulfill the requirements by using lines, squares, and rectangles. Here’s what it should look like at the end:

Amateur sleuth:

Master Sleuth:

(Photo from TMB’s walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

Take the scrap of notes that are in the trunk. These notes are what are missing from Boyle’s notes. Look at the book on snakes, the business card, and the postcard that’s to her friend.

The Mummy and the Culprit

Go back to the golden sarcophagus. On the way, look back inside the coffin in the fake tomb to reveal a mummy, which wasn’t there before. Something’s up, but keep going to the true tomb. To open the sarcophagus, use a combination of Boyle’s notes and the Senet game. When Nancy has pressed the symbols in the correct order, the sarcophagus will be unlocked.

Spoiler: Ankh, falcon, Horus (eye), 3 dots, wavy lines

Open the sarcophagus to reveal a mummy. This has to be Nefertari, which means that this is her real tomb. Turn around to see Lily at the other end of the path. She followed Nancy to the real tomb. The conversation between her and Lily is so loud that some of the tomb falls and traps Lily. Exit the tomb using the other exit and find Jamila. Tell her that Lily’s trapped. Jamila will give Nancy a beacon, a key, and a riddle. Go back to the locked doors in tunnel 4, the tunnel Nancy discovered. Use the key in the lock and enter the new tunnel. Head down the tunnel until it ends. Use Jamila’s riddle and Dylan’s chart to make a ledge for Nancy to cross so she can get to the other door. Turn the circles so the following heads are on top of the body:

(Photos from TMB’s walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

When Nancy goes through the other door, the culprit will stop her. She has to get across before the culprit does and she doesn’t have that much time to do it. The goal is to get Nancy from the lower left

corner to the upper end by rotating the squares so that the colors match at the ends of the squares. The squares are able to be turned clockwise and counterclockwise. Here’s what it should look like:

(Photo from TMB’s walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

When Nancy gets there ahead of the culprit, the culprit will catch up to her. But Professor Boyle appears and knocks the culprit out.

The End… Maybe…
