Hidden Influences #2 Copyright © 2003 Caryl Bryer Fallert Size: 36" high x 41" wide Techniques: Photo collage, designed in Corel Draw, color inkjet print

on cotton broadcloth, machine pieced, machine quilted Materials: Fabric: 100% cotton. Batting: 80% cotton / 20% Polyester Price: $NFS

The photographs of my great- grandmother and me in this photo-collage were taken approximately 100 years apart. My 101-year-old father remembered his grandmother as the kindest person he ever met. Although I never met her, her influence can be felt through her picture and through my father’s kind and gentle nature.

Mother's Day Copyright © 1996 Caryl Bryer Fallert Size: 36" high x 41" wide Size: 20" high x 22" wide Techniques: Hand dyed, machine pieced, appliqued, and quilted Materials: Fabric: 100% cotton. Batting: 80% cotton / 20% Polyester Price: $NFS

Mother's Day is a celebration of my mother and all of my female ancestors. Photos include fourteen stages of my mother’s life, including her last picture, plus both of my grandmothers at different stages of their lives, all four of my great grandmothers, and two of my great-great grandmothers. The spiral was used, as a universal symbol for natural cycles of birth, unfolding life, death, and new life. My 87-year-old mother, in her final photo, is holding her two-week-old great granddaughter Kate.

Yoga calms and centers me and helps me find creative inspiration to keep life in balance.

I created this quilt in response to a competitive challenge from Keepsake Quilting (a New Hampshire quilt shop and catalogue) to create a small quilt using at least 4 of the 6 fabrics provided, adding no more than 2 more fabrics, with the theme "Eastern Inspiration." The bamboo print and gold lame fabric were my additions.

Figure based on an illustration by Nicole Kauffman. Namaste to Becca Knox and Nancy Nielsen for their input.

Curvyfrom Not Your Grandma's Flower Garden Quilt ongoing installation project

Copyright © 2009 Cheri Kopp Size: 17" high x 17" wide x 1" deep (framed) Techniques: Folded, butt-joined and taped assembly Materials: Fabric: foil tops from food containers Price: $175

Collecting, cleaning and storing foil tops from yogurt containers, I discovered I could transform circles into hexagons. Uniting my art (from cast-off materials) and quilting background, I reimagined Grandmother’s Flower Garden, a traditional quilt pattern, in trash.

Each hexagon “block” has a distinct identity with a title referencing some unique aspect: My love of color guided my choice of brands for this block, then flow dictated placement, both of the adjacent colors and the gentle wave of the graphic.

Each hexagon “block” has a distinct identity with a title referencing some unique aspect: I loved the black labels more than we loved the brand so I had to settle for one set of six. That the word “exotic” framed the center message was serendipity and made me realize how making good choices can be so alluring.

Dark Matter Diane Williams 2016 77"x 60" Medium/ Materials: hand dyed and commercial cottons, Sulky

variegated thread. Techniques: free-form piecing, free-motion embroidery Price: NFS

This quilt is a collaboration of sorts. I arrived home from work one afternoon to find a box of fabric scraps on my doorstep left by the wonderful fiber artist, Barbara Houshmand. The box contained colorful scraps and also curved blocks for an abandoned quilt. The blocks sat in my studio until one day, feeling particularly uninspired, I started ironing them. I thought maybe if I slash these into pieces and add strips they will inspire me. They did. I added strips, circles and sashing to create an outer space effect. My daughter and I had been talking about dark matter, which is strange invisible space stuff, so when I quilted my spacy blocks I used a free-motion design to suggest dark matter and the organic geometry of the universe. This quilt is an unwitting collaboration of women.

Spring Bursts Forth from Mother Nature By Elaine Girard 2016 24’ x 34” Medium / materials: Cotton fabric, batting, interfacing, cotton/poly

threads Techniques: Applique and machine quilted NFS

Daffodils have always been a true indicator that spring has arrived. This piece was inspired by multiple photos of my own daffodils, transformed to a design drawing. Using photos and some creativity the stylized daffodils emerged. After transferring my design to fabric, the flowers stems, grasses were appliqued to the background using fusible interface. The applique was then edge stitched. Circles used to add interest and amusement. Threads were used to add depth and clarity to the piece. The background was then quilted using a number of overall fillers and free motion design.

Amazon: Warrior Woman By Jeannie McMacken Size: 20 x 24 x 7 Techniques: casting, collage, illustration Materials: plaster, cotton bandage, stained filter paper (black, green

teas), gel medium, gesso, sepia ink, watercolor, Plexiglas. Source: The Amazons, Adrienne Mayor $500.00

In 300 B.C. there lived a tribe of Scythian women in Eurasia known as Amazons. They epitomized strength and courage and lived in a matriarchal society. They valued their horses and weapons, were heavily tattooed, and were armed and dangerous fighters, equal to men. I would like to think we are all warrior women, with our battle scars and tattoos, riding off on our beloved horses to make the world a better place for our civilization-- battling for our lives and protecting those we love.

Three Queens By Mary Tyler 2016 36’ x 36” Medium / materials: Cotton, machine pieced, machine quilted $500

This piece deals with the language used to define women. One, the general term, women, means all women. Two, the idealized woman, pretty, soft and if you look closely,

mechanized. Three, actual women, young, mature and aged

In Her Shoes By Sue Scott 2016 Size: 19” x 12.5 x 11.5 Techniques: Materials: $899.00

“In Her Shoes: Finding Her Voice” is a meditation on the changes women in general and I, particular, have gone through, experienced, both those that changed or marked me and those I think did not. It is also about exploring options, searching for meaning, and integration – about bringing everything together in one life, for a particular point or period in time. All of which or any bit of, may change at any moment.

Best Friends By Sue Scott 2016 Size: 36” x 13.5 Techniques: Materials: $492.00

“Best Friends” reflects my thoughts regarding my relationship with my mother shortly after she passed away. We had many interests in common and enjoyed spending time together working with textiles, talking about art and our projects. Even though we had these things in common, our work and work styles were very different, reflecting both the different times in which we lived as well as the different lives we lived.
