April 2016

Dear Colleagues

This letter and its accompanying checklist is being sent to all parish clergy, PCC secretaries and our parish/benefice Safeguarding Nominated People, so apologies if you may receive this more than once.

As you will be aware there are many safeguarding challenges we need to respond to within a fast changing church and national agenda. One of these challenges is that we need to both review, and capture information, from across the Diocese to ensure that we are able to evidence good safeguarding practices and to offer support where there are gaps. (This is an exercise happening in most dioceses at the moment).

Building on the parish checklists from the last couple of years, this new 2016-2017 checklist is designed to follow on from the APCM round this year. It is designed to help your PCC talk about its safeguarding work and assess where there is already good practice and identify where further work, advice, or support is needed.

If you need any help or guidance in completing this please don’t hesitate to be in touch. We are aware that it is a substantial piece of work. Each section has a `comments’ box so that you can add your notes or information. The checklist is also in Word format on our website http://www.gloucester.anglican.org/parish-life/safeguarding/resources-for-nominated-people/, so you can save it and make changes as you work through it, before submitting the completed document.

Please note that every PCC in the Diocese is asked to complete and submit this review before the 31 August 2016.

With best wishes
