Six of Pentacles – You get paid, or you pay them, in a fair exchange. You get attention from a person or persons, or you are attentive to them. You are being treated right, and/or you are treating other(s) right. You get what you deserve, or you give him, her, or them what is deserved. You get respect, or you give someone respect. So Six of Pentacles is an exchange of attention or money, a social or financial interaction. .In its setting today, with one of the other cards (Hierophant) echoing the ‘right’ meaning, and the other card simply referring to doing something, or something being done (Magician), the payment side of Six of Pentacles is brought out. “Pay someone else to do that.” .Reward is one of Six of Pentacles’ meanings, and it too is brought out by the ‘doing the right thing’ theme established in today’s spread. .Six of Pentacles shows a hand-to-hand delivery, so delivery, and things passed from one person to another – like germs – and things dispensed – like medications or drugs – are its purview as well.

Hierophant – The seal of approval: It’s okay, it’s good, it’s all right, it’s what’s decent, it’s what you should do or be, or what you are supposed to do or be, it’s moral and respectable. It’s usual and traditional. The pope says so, the arbiter of propriety and piety. So Hierophant is anything a pope would approve of publicly..The less obvious application of Hierophant is this seal of approval as it applies to ‘the paper thing.’ The official public thing. Hierophant indicates ‘marriage on paper,’ for instance (assuming marriage is the subject, of course). Hierophant is a certificate, a license, is what’s legitimate, what’s established, what’s accepted on the surface, what’s traditional, what a person’s entitlement and rights are. Hierophant reflects a person’s title, reflects the name of a person or other entity (organization, race horse – anything with a name)..Hierophant also reflects a public declaration, as when a couple presents themselves as such (as ‘an item,’ some people say) – hence, it represents commitment in relationship or a committed relationship..You also find Hierophant meaning harmless or no harm.

Magician – Magician’s few and clear meanings derive from its position as number one. Esoterically speaking (Golden Dawn says, the creators of the Rider Waite deck) number one is active and is the start and is male. It is action and not thought. (Don’t laugh!) High Priestess, as the number two, is thought and not action. So Magician’s main meanings are: male, action (conjugate the verbs ‘do’ and ‘make,’ for instance), and ‘start’ or ‘initiate.’ And you got it. Magician is an anchor card of course (one whose meanings are few and clear as they interrelate with the other cards). ....

Six of Pentacles and Hierophant have some of their leading meanings in common: what is deserved, respect, fairness, and 'right' as in doing right. That means we split hairs assigning words to these two cards where their meanings overlap. .Here are some examples of that: In the third sentence of Six of Pentacles and

Hierophant, " I got what I deserved for what I did," Six of Pentacles means '

I got what I deserved' and Hierophant is ' what I deserved.' In the

eighth sentence, " Treated with respect for what you are doing," '

treated with respect’ belongs to Six of Pentacles, and ' respect' also belongs to

Hierophant. And in the tenth and last sentence of that group (Six of Pentacles

and Hierophant) " When you get the money you are entitled to, do something

with it," the phrase ' When you get the money you are entitled to' belongs to

Six of Pentacles, but ' you are entitled to' also belongs to Hierophant. They are sharing..

In the first sentence of Six of Pentacles and Magician, " Doing the right and

moral thing,” ' Doing' belongs to Magician; ' Doing the right thing'
