WHEREAS, SNAP participants include the elderly, individuals with disabilities, low-income working families with children, and those struggling to find work; and

WHEREAS, SNAP reflects our nation’s long-term bipartisan commitment to ensure that no American goes hungry; and

WHEREAS, SNAP has been proven to not only reduce poverty but also support state and local businesses by driving spending at grocery stores in the community, including 9,644 authorized SNAP retailers in Ohio, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities; and

WHEREAS, SNAP has also been proven to improve public health and lead to lasting benefits for children, including an increased likelihood that adults who used SNAP as children will graduate from high school and a decreased likelihood that they will suffer long-term health problems like obesity and heart disease; and

WHEREAS, In Lorain County, 37,300 residents participate and receive a modest monthly SNAP of $124.00; and

WHEREAS, Some members of Ohio’s congressional delegation serve on the House and Senate Agriculture Committees, which has jurisdiction over SNAP; and

WHEREAS, Some of the Administration’s proposals for SNAP, such as exposing more people to the stringent three-month time limit, have already been tried in Ohio with devastating results; and

WHEREAS, The Ohio Association of Foodbanks found that nearly 370,000 fewer Ohioans are enrolled in SNAP since the resumption of work requirements in October of 2013; and
