The post:

Successful applicants will undertake a modern apprenticeship in Maintenance Engineering, to become a fully qualified and competent Technician.

Main duties & responsibilities:

Once training has been successfully completed you will be expected to:

Carry out maintenance, repair and replacement of Electrical & Instrumentation systems on gas pressure control installations and associated equipment. You will work as part of a team responsible for the maintenance of the Electrical & Instrumentation systems on the high pressure gas supply network.

Qualifications:

E&I apprentices will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above including Maths and Science or suitable equivalents. This is the minimum entry requirement to complete the technical certificate which forms part of the apprenticeship.

Training will be for a minimum of 3 years depending on progress and will be completed as follows:

Year 1 Full time at a local college completing a Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) Level 2 qualification and Key Skills as required. Additionally the first year will involve completion of a technical certificate, which is usually a Level 3 Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.

Year 2 1 day a week at college completing the second year of a Level 3 Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering plus completion of mandatory HS&E training. Apprentices will commence technical training which is carried out at a number of training centres and includes IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition, Electrical Inspection & Testing, bespoke Electrical Safety modules, Hazardous Area Training and Pressure control appreciation. The remainder of the time will be spent completing on the job training with an experiences Network Services Technician as a mentor.

Year 3 Following completion of technical training, E&I apprentices will be assessed in the workplace by a variety of methods to a pre-determined assessment plan. Following successful completion, apprentices will attain an NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (Electrical). Apprentices may also be required to spend one day a week at college completing a HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineers, however this is optional and dependant on progress.

Year 4 Completion of NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (Electrical) and gain more on the job experience.

Additional information:

Applicants must be willing to work various shift patterns which includes weekend and evening work, and participation in a 24/7 standby rota. Applicants will be required to hold a full valid driving license at completion of the apprenticeship programme.
