Artist Profile:Born, raised and currently based in Chicago, when Beata is not behind her camera, she works as a graphic designer. Whether it’s shots from travel or everyday life, she is passionate about the craft of visual storytelling, and uses photography as a means to document the world around her—as she sees it.

Artist Statement:One of my photography series is called, "A sense of space" Through this series, I express how our urban spaces and our natural places are shared environments that we inhabit in different ways and with different points of view. As a designer, I am drawn to the inherent geometry and patterns of nature that have, over the years, been incorporated into architectural practice. As a photographer, I focus on places where the built and unbuilt intersect and try to document the delicate balance—light and dark, smooth and rough, inhabited and uninhabited, earth and sky—that brings curiosity and visual interest into our lives. Darius graduated from Northeastern Illinois University in 2012 with degrees is Fine Art and Mathematics. Darius prefers antidotes set in portraiture and landscape that create a dance with mathematics & illustration. Darius' style is concerned with holding a voice that carries the tone of typography and graffiti. Darius aspires to create works that fill the role of Aristotle, Dali and Einstein's favorite bartender.

Artist Statement:Jav1's Purgatory, (http://javiously.life) is a commission for original album artwork attached to the release of Javier JAV1 Berrior's title EP "Without A Fight". The work is an illustration that was manifested from the content of the album. Isaac Israilevichisaac@echoesofchicago.orgwww.echoesofchicago.orgCommissions available upon request

Artist Profile:Isaac was born in Ohio and moved to Chicago before he turned one. Since then, he has lived in Skokie for seventeen years, Australia for five months, and Chicago for twelve years. Chicago will always be his home. Having graduated from college in 2010 with degrees in English and Secondary Education, Isaac has been an educator ever since. He has also been other things. For one, Isaac has become increasingly inspired and humbled by the growing number of excelsior artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs he has worked with since the beginning of his involvement with Echoes of Chicago. Isaac will never forget the founder of Echoes approaching him about six years ago, shortly after they had become friends, and saying, “I feel like you could use a creative outlet, wanna join Echoes?” He still puzzles over this occurrence, but makes more and more sense of it as time goes on.

"It's better to light a candle than to curse the darkness." -unknown

Artist Statement:When I was little my Dad gave me a piece of magnifying glass that he framed in wood. He taught me to harness the sun. The first time I remember creating something “real” with this gift was when I was still little. My sister and I decided to give our Grandma a present. So, on a piece of wood, my sister drew a simple Jewish star and wrote something in Hebrew. I then used the sun to add permanence to the design. Since then, a few similar instances have occurred, until we made our mom’s most recent birthday present. This time my sister drew something intricate, and I realized I could create more detail than I thought... Because of the artistic theme of this event (Chicago in all its interpretations) and the origins of this craft (my Dad-of Latvian descent; my Grandma-of Polish descent; my Sister, Mom, and self-who reside in Chicago), it only made sense to me to create what you see before you. From the incredible architecture of old historic Chicago Board of Trade, to the history making achievement of the Sears Tower. What other city celebrates public art like Chicago, from Cloud Gate, to the Picasso, to Calder's Flamingo. The real secret to what makes Chicago great, are the people! This is the city that works. Everyday, millions of people get up and head into Chicago to put in a hards day work to support their families. It isn't always easy, but this is Chicago, and this is what we do. I love this city. Artist Profile:Jenn is a self taught visual artist and has been creating sine she could hold a pencil. The general feel and inspiration behind her work is the feeling nostalgia. She want the audience of her to be able to get lost in a moment or taken somewhere like a memory, like the feeling of holding an aged vintage photo.

Artist Statement:Coming from a wave of different influential heritage and culture , from growing up in different areas, I’ve always circle back to the idea of nostalgia . Getting able to look at a photo and really feel where that photo came from and the feeling of when it was first created or moment it was captured. The sentimental longing you still get after watching it age is such a beautiful idea to me. I would really love for someone to look at my art working really feel the color and the environment that I try to create within the paining to make it feel like you could be living in the paining as well . Get lost in the art the way you would in your favorite instrumental solo.

Jillian Kennedy708-420-3496Jilliankennedyart@gmail.comwww.jilliankennedyart.comCommissions available upon request

Artist Profile:Jillian Kennedy was born in a South-suburban neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois in 1993. After graduating high school in 2011, she decided to pursue her dreams of becoming an artist. She attended college at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois. There, she graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art with a specialization in Life Drawing. For most visual artists like Jillian, it is a natural instinct to be particularly observant of the people, places and things they're surrounded by. Living in a relatively quiet suburb while having an agenda in the busy city had allowed her to experience two completely diverse environments on a regular basis, thus allowing her observations to inspire much of her work. Jillian has been involved in numerous art exhibitions since graduating from the Academy and continues her search of new inspirations in and out of the city.

Artist Statement:Taking on the city as my subject matter seemed natural. I have always been awestruck at all the magnificent, towering Chicago architecture, which is a very different environment in comparison to the quiet suburban world I grew up in. It wasn't until I started commuting to and from the city on a regular basis that I realized just how inspired I was by it. With each new day, I find myself exploring ways to advance my technical skills while continuing to examine the beauty of the city of Chicago and the people who inhabit it.

Kip Pasta630-942-0710kpasta@sbcglobal.netwww.outsidethegallery.comCommissions available upon request

Artist Profile:Kip Pasta is a self- taught artist inspired by Jackson Pollocks’ abstract paintings. Their work has been described as “Virtual Pollock”. (very flattering.) Sculptures are their main output, though enjoys painting also.Pasta was nominated as an “Artist to Watch” by the Chicago Artists’ Coalition. (Featured article in the CAC December, 2009 issue.) Pasta works out of their studio in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Current exhibits: Orland Park library & Echoes of Chicago

Artist Statement:I like to work with paint and wood. I have had creative ideas using other media, but wood has become the most useful expression. I have named my pieces “Construction Sculptures” to separate them from what most think of when referring to sculptures. Because of their architectural feel I introduced the term “construction” to give them some identification. The linear cohesiveness of the space and shapes takes on many aspects of architectural design.

Imagining one of my pieces in a particular environment is the genesis for a new idea. Keeping that environment in mind as I build, helps to keep me focused on the work. When I created “Cityscape”, I envisioned this piece in an entryway, concourse, or foyer of a municipal building. The large size of the work, and the softness of the wood, would produce an interesting relief from the hardness of marbled walls or the coldness of concrete. “Opus #6” was designed with the idea of being placed in a music room with a piano dominating the space.

Enhancing a space, and eliciting some response from the viewer is always on my radar. The pieces have an almost kinetic value that can change (for the better) the whole environment that they are in.It’s very rewarding when you are sure handed with your tools, and you know exactly what you want to accomplish.

I do not do sketches of my work prior to constructing. If I did, I believe that I would be limited to a blueprint. I take a mental snapshot of each phase of a project. When I complete that step, the linear movement of what has been completed dictates the next portion. When the piece is done, it is done. I don’t need to add anything else, it’s just right.

Artist Profile:Megan Kind is a contemporary artist, born and raised on the Southwest side of Chicago, now living in Ukrainian Village. She attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Steven Papageorge Hair Academy. She uses her schooling at both places to fuel her creativity on hair, canvas, and other mediums. She finds inspiration in the fluidity of the physical form, movement in hair texture, and intensity of human emotion. You might find her pieces up at the salon she works at, coffee shops, bars, local art festivals, galleries, or even randomly making art on the streets.

Artist Statement:There's personality in the eyes. Have you ever met someone, and without a word knew how they were feeling? Their eyes and body language tell a story without uttering one word. It's the feeling you get when you look into someone's soul. It's the beauty in the pain and sadness, the anger, or the happiness and joy.Through the vulnerability or strength in the eyes I find my inspiration. Living in Chicago I have the opportunity to make connections with people, street art, and music that breaths life into my Urban Portraits. My use of bold color, lines, and texture shows the portraiture is as diverse as Chicago itself.

She earned her BA in Education and Visual Arts at St. Xavier University. She earned her MA in Interdisciplinary Arts at Columbia College of Chicago. She is a member of the Fulton Street Collective. Her work focuses on her city, community, and the humans that inhabit it all.

Artist Statement:As a little girl, some of my earliest memories include my father taking my sisters and I out for a car ride in his Crown Victoria. He'd drive us around to all of his favorite neighborhoods. He'd tell us some hidden stories about the places as we past them. We would spend a whole afternoon cruising through the streets of towns we dreamed to call home. We’d pick out our favorite houses and discuss what life would be like if we lived there. We always appreciated the little details and complexities of old architecture. This blossomed into a life long passion for the city and its architecture. I am fascinated by the stories of the people who once inhabited these structures. I love to reflect on better days, harder days, and the way time is the only thing separating both. My current architecture series is dedicated to my love for my city and its inhabitants, past and present. These specific pieces include my favorite parts of Chicago, and particularly my neighborhood of Wicker Park.

I was born and raised in Chicago. I studied Chicago's part in architectural history, as well as the history of the photographers who used Chicago as the backdrop (and subject matter) for their work. As Chicago changes, I want to continue the tradition of documenting how we change with it, and how we shape Chicago moving forward.

He graduated with a BFA in life drawing at the American Academy of Art in 2015. Technical training in traditional drawing skills from the Academy led him to find interests in professional illustration, graphic design, photography, and fine art.

Oscar currently lives in Chicago and has been involved in many artist exhibitions around Chicago. He has also been a part of showcases outside of the city such as The Society of Illustrators student exhibition in New York, Congressional Art Exhibition and Digital Arts Showcase in South Korea.

Artist Profile:Paul Thompson has a Bachelors degree in Film and Video. His work usually is reminiscent of the comic books and cartoons he grew up with while usually exploring themes of hope and what that means for different people. He has done album artwork, children's books and displayed several times around the city.

Artist Statement:While some of his work is informed by street art and comic books, the piece you will see tonight is an exploration of the city landscape; looking west on the Chicago River.

Rebecca [email protected]/rebeccaInstagram: littletinydetailsCommissions available upon request

Artist Profile:For Rebecca, creating art happens when she is inspired by surroundings, events, and materials that trigger an emotional response needing to be articulated by more than words alone. Art exploration began as a child, when she would spend Saturday mornings at the Evanston Art Center and later as a teen at Sabina Studios in Skokie, where she was a student and then teacher. Rebecca’s emerging love of mixed media collage was solidified at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received a Master’s of Arts in Art Therapy. She practices art therapy and is a supervisor at a hospital outpatient program for adults with chronic mental illness. Currently she is enrolled in a watercolor class to brush up the old and bring in the new.

Artist Statement:Happy Birthday Chicago! This work reflects the concept of ‘diving in’ and being open to exploration, both internally and in externally. Chicago provides so many opportunities for growth, always finding ‘firsts’ and being able to build on memories. The Chicagoland area is the only home I’ve known and I continue to expand my awareness with constant inspiration from the city.

Artist Profile:Renata is from Krakow, Poland a place filled with rich culture and hard-working, creative people. Her sewing skills began there as well, mending clothing and decorating her home with handmade draperies. She came to Chicago, and never left. A home away from home, she found love, higher education, and finally the time to go back to what she enjoys! With beads and her sewing skills, she is able to capture beautiful moments and scenery from the city she now calls home.

Her passion for beading all began after her son’s wedding. It started with a sample wedding dress bought off the rack by her daughter in law. The beading on the bodice and back was destroyed after many different women trying it on. This was the first time Renata had beaded an article of clothing, and they were both pleasantly surprised with how beautiful it turned out. Her daughter in law was so happy to have an original design and to have as much beadwork as a couture gown! Since fixing the wedding dress, she has been beading clothing and creating different pieces of unique artwork. Now she sees the entire world in beads!

Recently through a series of injuries, she has been bedridden and produced art in all varieties, seeking what is noble, lovely and pure.

Artist Statement:East Village in Chicago Illinois is my Home. I search the side walks, curbs, alleys for light, texture and beauty. I spot color in the midst of grey winters. I delight in the hunt for beauty with a love for detail and landscape. The historical architecture in the area is prominent, I record it with photos, I study it’s nuances. East Village is my Home and it is ever changing. My hope is to record the beauty, character and diversity as I see it today.

Zac Franzoni309-338-3680zacfranzoni@gmail.comwww.ZacFranzoni.comFacebook: ZacFranzoniPaintingsInstagram: zacfranzoniCommissions available upon request

Artist Profile:Zac Franzoni is a working mans artist. He did not go to art school and learn how to paint; instead he painted until he mastered his own style. The result is a unique process that creates visceral, organic, and even cosmic works of art that connect us to something deeper. Some have called him a visionary, but that is too pretentious for Zac. If you ask him about the importance of his art, he will most likely shrug and ask if you think it is pretty.

He lives in Chicago and likes The Rolling Stones and drinking good beer.

Artist Statement:This piece is titled "Homecoming". I moved to Maine in 2015 after 12 years in Chicago to get away from the busy city life and try to start over in a new, fresh environment. I attempted to continue my art career and life as it was in Chicago, but it just wasn't the same. The nature and quiet fed part of my soul, but the lack of art market and interest took that same energy away, so I decided to move back after just a year there. The people and artistic integrity of Chicago feeds my soul like no other place, and this piece was the first painting I completed upon returning home.

Zak [email protected]: zakz95Instagram: attackofthezakwww.soundcloud.com/zak-zunigaCommissions available upon request

Artist Profile:Zak is a street photographer currently residing in Logan Square. As well as being a musician, his influences vary from Ansel Adams to ZZ Top. His work mainly focuses on symmetrical themes and singular subjects that stand out from the rest. In the past three years, his work has been displayed in multiple galleries and art shows throughout Chicago.

Artist Statement:To me, all of the pieces have one thing in common - and that is the idea of loneliness. Even in a city as big and as busy as Chicago, it's very easy to feel small here. Personally, all of these pieces reflect a part of myself that I used to be overwhelmed with - being alone, lost, defeated and depressed. These photos are a representation of the mindset I always had and how I saw the world.

Closer - the feeling of being smothered by people. Aside from the parking lots, all of the other windows are residential homes and it seems overbearing at one point. All of the problems we have in our day-to-day, just seem that much smaller when you look at the big picture of things.

You Were Everything to Me - the feeling of loss. Like a dandelion blowing in the wind as it is losing all of its florets, going through a loss of someone or something both takes away a lot (initially) but then gives back in ways of lessons learned or perhaps even mental fortitude.

Dark Side of You - the feeling of separation. This captured the general nature of riders on the CTA - we all have places to see and things to do, but we don't see how we create this sort of distance between each other. We don't want anyone to invade our personal bubble, we separate ourselves and don't let anyone in.

Artist Profile:After growing up in Colorado, Rudy attended the Savannah College of Art and Design and completed the Sequential Art program in 2005. He then moved to Chicago and Co-Founded the creative design house Studio of the Month. Transitioning to more personal painting and freelance illustration ranging from video game cut scenes to album artwork and portraiture - Rudy now works from his home studio in Logan Square - and can also be found during the summer months as a Captain on the Chicago River.

Artist Statement:This piece was inspired by the 21st Amendment to the United States Constitution, which repealed the 18th Amendment, mandating the national prohibition of alcohol. The history of Chicago is entwined with these Amendments truthfully, and exaggerated in myth and story. Inspired by small breweries, local venues, and historical elements of the period including fashion and the color of old photographs - this work celebrates the 21st, while at the same time incorporating modern design elements and a stylized comic book look.
