Activity 2

1. The operating system provides a communicative environment between the computer and user and has two forms: The Graphical-user interface (GUI) and the Command-line interface (CLI). The Command Prompt program of Microsoft Windows appears as a Command-line interface environment. Search for this program using the Search box and then open it. Key the command Date and press Enter. Write the message which appears on screen: ………………………………………………………… Next, key the command today and press Enter.

Select the correct answer

Why do you think the date does not appear on screen?

because the command today does not start with a capital letter.

because in a Command-line interface I can give only one command at a time.

because in a Command-line interface the computer only accepts specific commands.

2. In the graphic communication environment there are numerous icons through which we have direct access to various actions. We can search, find and select the proper icon on the desktop which inform us about: The capacity of the RAM and the capacity of the Hard Disk. Now write this information in the table below.

Memory (RAM) capacity

Total Hard Disk (C:) capacity

Free Hard Disk (C:) space

3. The graphic communication environment gives you the opportunity to place icons and programs in a visible position on the Pin bar and the Main Window (start menu). Now each group has to pin:

Paint program Windows media player Internet explorer PowerPoint

Pin bar

Calculator Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel Main Window
