Welcome to this issue of the Dunedin Heritage Light
Rail Trust newsletter. The Trust hope you enjoyed
reading the last issue. We received several favorable
comments after the issue with several members
willing to put themselves forward to help launch the
establishment of the High Street Cable Car
Incorporated Society. With the imminent return to
Dunedin of a trailer and cable car as a temporary
Museum on Mornington Park the Trust asks for
financial help.

The Grip Car 97 on the left above and trailer 111 on right are the two vehicles the Tramways Historic
Society have available for transportation to our proposed temporary Museum on Mornington Park.
Financial support from the members will see these vehicles on display later this year
The Trust can confirm that an agreement has
been arranged between the THS and the Trust for
the lease of the fully restored Trailer 111 and
partly restored Grip Car 97. However, before any
signed agreement can be entered into, the Trust
needs to construct a secure building on a site on
Mornington Park to house the two units. The
estimated cost to achieve this is around
$20,000.Should every member who received this
newsletter make a donation of $50+ to the Trust a
large portion of the required funding would be
met. With this support behind us the Trust would
then be in a position to apply for extra funding
through grant applications. The Trust have spoken
to the Dunedin City Council Recreation &
Reserve Planning Team Leader, who has
indicated his initial support for a temporary site
to be made available, subject to site size and final
Council approval.I attended an award celebration
for the re-construction of trailer 111 at ferrymead
on May 16th. TV3 were there and it made their
news that night. It can be seen on

purposeful traction…
Grip car 103 above is at the early stages of its restoration by the THS team at a cost of $100,000. This vehicle and trailer 111 were part of the Mornington line that closed in

With the formation of the DunedinHeritage Light Rail Trust, serious progress has been
made on the Cable Car project. The requirement now, is to press on with the first stage as
proposed in order to guage the strength of the support for the project by the public.
This is some of the staff that work in the workshop of the San Francisco Cable Car section of the Muni. Their experience will be sought for the construction of the High Street Cable Car line.
