Below is the end of KS1 English writing assessment framework so you are aware of what’s expected from your child:

Lesson 1Earlier in the year, children wrote an information text about Victorian toys. Before writing this, children were given an opportunity to research about Victorian toys so they knew all of the relevant information. As our topic for this half term is Moon Zoom, the information text will be based around space. Therefore, for lesson 1 please research about space and write some bullet points with your child. This will make it easier when they come to writing their information text. When researching you could find out about astronauts, space suits and space craft.

Lesson 2

Victorian toysThe Victorian era is named after Queen Victoria who was the queen from 1837-1901 (over 118 years ago). The toys that children and adults played with were the Diabolo, Cup and Ball, Whip and Top and Jacob’s Ladder. Do you know what the toys were made out of?Below is an example of a subject paragraph based on Victorian toys:DiaboloHold the sticks in each hand and then wobble the sticks with the spool balancing on the string, flick the spool in the air and then catch it again on the string. The Diabolo was normally played by rich people and it’s a juggling toy.

Please remember yours is about space.

Lesson 3For this lesson, please write the second subject paragraph and conclusion paragraph. Below are examples of these paragraphs based on Victorian toys:Cup and ballWealthy Victorians had lots of money and they could afford the Cup and Ball. To play, you hold the stem, thrown the wooden ball in the air and try to catch it in the cup.
