Preparing for the EventIn order to attend a Throne of Skulls event, you’ll need to prepare an army of Citadel Miniatures to play with, as well as a number of other things to bring with you. We’ve prepared this checklist for you; if you follow it, you’ll definitely have everything you need!

Selecting your armyTo attend a Throne of Skulls event, you’ll need to bring a 600 point army, selected using the “Choosing An Army” guide on page 100 of the The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey™ rules manual.

The Warrior’s CodeWhen attending a Throne of Skulls, we require that you read and abide by The Warrior’s Code, which is designed to ensure everyone has a fantastic experience. In summary, we expect that –

• All your miniatures have been produced by Games Workshop (Citadel, Forge World and Warhammer Forge).

• All miniatures in your army must be fully painted.• All miniatures in your army must be fully based. • All miniatures in your army must be fully assembled.• Your Army List is selected from a current The Hobbit: An

Unexpected Journey™ Strategy Battle Game or The Lord of the Rings™ Strategy Battle Game publication.

• All miniatures in your army must have the correct weapons/equipment as listed.

• You do not use proxies at Warhammer World Events.• All major conversions are approved by the Warhammer World

Events Team in advance of the event. • You treat all your opponents in a fair and even handed manner. • You embrace the Most Important Rule; play in the spirit of the

game and do not get bogged down in the details of the rules.

If you and your miniatures abide to The Warrior’s Code throughout the event, there is a sizable reward as mentioned later in the Scoring section.

For a much more detailed description of exactly what all of the above points mean, including examples, please visit the Warrior’s Code page online Click Here

GamesYour opponents will be randomly selected by the Events Team, and games will last up to one and a half hours.

For Games 1-4 (all day Saturday), we will be using scenarios from the Points Match section of the The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey™ rules manual (pages 104-109), rolling randomly before each game.

For Games 5-7 (all day Sunday), we will be using the scenarios from the Games in the Mirkwood section of the The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug™ expansion (pages 27-29). Please note, for these games, the special rules for playing games in Mirkwood (page 26) will be in use.

All players will play the same scenario, and once a scenario has been played, it will be crossed off the list and not used again.

The scenery on the tables will be pre-determined by the Events Team, but players should feel free to re-organise it before rolling for deployment if both of you wish. If a specific piece of battlefield terrain is required for the scenario being played, the Events Team will provide it before the game begins.

The Children of UngoliantDuring the games on Sunday, we will be playing the scenarios from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug™, including using the rules for fighting in Mirkwood. For this event only, replace the rules for the result “Spider-infested Wood” with this:

“At the end of each player’s Move phase, roll a D6 for each Spider-infested Wood on the table. On the roll of a 6, place a single fully painted Mirkwood Spider (if you have one) within the Spider-infested Wood, but not within 1” of any other miniature. The Mirkwood Spider is under the control of the player whose Move phase it currently is for the duration of the battle (but does not count as being part of his or her force); it cannot Move or Charge in the turn it appears, but can otherwise act normally.”

ScoringThroughout the Throne of Skulls, you are looking to score Battle Points; the more Battle Points you earn, the greater your chance of lifting the coveted Throne of Skulls trophy. You earn these Battle Points as such:

• 3 Battle Points for winning a game. • 1 Battle Point for drawing a game. • 0 Battle Points for losing a game. • 1 Battle Point for each Favourite Game vote you receive

at the event. • 10 Battle Points if you comply fully with The Warrior’s Code

throughout the weekend.

At the end of the event, the player who has scored the highest number of Battle Points from each faction (see The Nine above) will receive a Best of Faction Award.

The overall winner will be whichever of these players scores the highest Margin of Victory (see box out below). This player will be awarded the title of Lord of Middle-earth™ along with the coveted Throne of Skulls trophy itself.

If there are less than three players using armies from a faction, then rather than the faction average, we will compare their score to the average of all of the players at the event combined.

In the case of a tie between two players, either for the Best of Faction award, or for the Throne of Skulls itself, we will use the following as tie-breakers- 1. Number of Battle Points awarded from Favourite Game Votes

received.2. Number of Battle Points awarded for following the Warrior’s

Code. 3. How many games you won. 4. How many players you competed against in your race (to

decide the Lord of Middle-earth™ only).5. The presentation of your army list.

The NineWhen you register, you will join one of nine factions, depending on which books you have chosen your army list from. These factions are:

The Free Peoples (armies chosen from this supplement alone)

The Kingdoms of Men (armies chosen from this supplement alone)

Moria™ and Angmar™ (armies chosen from this supplement alone)

The Fallen Realms (armies chosen from this supplement alone)

Mordor™ (armies chosen from this supplement alone)

The Heralds of Freedom (any Good army chosen from either The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey™ or The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug™)

The Denizens of the Necromancer (any Evil army chosen from either The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey™ or The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug™)

Allies of the Light (any Good army chosen from two or more books)

Allies of the Dark Lord (any Evil army chosen from two or more books)

It is important you register with the correct faction (knowingly registering with the wrong faction will be considered a breach of the Warrior’s Code), so if you have any doubts, just ask a staff member to help you out.

Margin of VictoryAt the end of the event, we work out the average score of each of the races in attendance. We then compare that race’s top scoring player to the average score of all the players of that race. The amount which that player beat the average by is called the Margin of Victory.

EG: Jim came top of The Free Peoples players by scoring 25 Battle Points overall. The other Free Peoples players scored 19, 18, 14 and 12 respectively. Thus, the average Free Peoples score is 17.6 and Jim’s Margin of Victory is 7.4.

Favourite Game Votes At the end of the event, you get to vote for the player who gave you the most enjoyable game over the weekend. Perhaps their army was gorgeous, or they taught you a new tactic? Perhaps they were just a thoroughly sporting opponent. For whatever the reason, please show your appreciation for that player by voting for them.

Everybody has seen those cinematic moments, where one heroic act by an underdog has swung the course of the battle. Using the record sheets

provided, note down your most unbelievable stories of heroic deeds; we want narrative-driven stories of hugely defied odds and insurmountable glory like this: • “Tauriel™ swung through the trees, gutting four Wargs in one

combat, shooting three Orcs on the way, only to run into a pair of Mirkwood spiders about to eat Kili the Dwarf and slay them both!”

The best story of bravery in the face of the enemy will receive the Single Most Heroic Act prize at the Award Ceremony.

The Green Dragon Pub QuizIt’s tradition to have some Saturday night boisterous mirth at such events and this one shall be no different! Based entirely on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey™ Strategy Battle Game, this quiz might include favourites such as Guess That Stat-line, Say What You See and Who Would Win? Designed to let you chill out in Bugman’s Bar with a drink or two (they come in pints), this is suitable for new players and veterans alike, so why not gather a team of six or less and have a go? The winning team will not only be crowned The Heroes of the Green Dragon at the Award Ceremony, but also receive a free round of drinks on us!

Legends gives you the chance to show off your skills with single models rather than with whole armies. Simply enter a

model in the relevant category when entries are being taken (check the schedule above). Once all the entries are in, we ask everyone to vote for their favourites. Whoever gains the most votes in each category will be declared the winner! (Please note - these models can be anything from your collection, so feel free to bring anything, from any games system you like).

Hero of Legend: All types of Infantry & Cavalry, Bikes & Jetbikes.Beast of Legend: Monstrous Creatures, Beasts, Flying Monstrous Creatures, Warhammer Swarms, War Beasts, all Monsters.Engine of Legend: All Vehicles, War Machines and Artillery.

The Best Army CompetitionIt’s an honour for any hobbyist to have their army nominated by the Events Staff for the Best Army Competition. Make sure you show your appreciation by voting for your favourite army from those selected at the appropriate time. The winner will be declared The Elven Artisan and glory shall be theirs.

The Award Ceremony At the end of the Throne of Skulls, we will have an Awards Ceremony, where we will recognise the achievements earned over the course of the event. We will be presenting:

• The Lord of Middle-earth™: to the Overall Throne of Skulls Champion.

• Best of Faction: to the player from each faction who scored the highest number of Battle Points.

• The Elven Artisan: to the player who receives the most number of votes for Best Army.

• The Artisan’s Apprentice: to each player who was nominated for the Artisan of Renown Award.

• The Heroes of The Green Dragon: to the winning pub quiz team.

• Legends Painting Competition Winners: to the players who win the Legends Painting Competitions.

• News from the Front: Single Most Heroic Act: to the player deemed to have performed the most heroic deed of all.

• The King’s Laurels: to the player/players who receive the highest number of Favourite Game Votes.

• Warhammer World Knight of the Inner Circle: this rare and prestigious award is given to any player who receives seven out of seven Favourite Game Votes.
