About MDC

In 2002, the Government of Egypt (GoE) enacted Law No. 83 for the year 2002 regarding the establishment of
Economic Zones of a Special Nature. By passing this law, the GoE ensured the provision of the necessary
legislation for an appealing business environment to investors, by establishing the SCZone Authority and
mandating the creation of the Main Development Company (MDC) to enable the development of SCZone.
In 2015 Law No 27 was enacted to change of the regulatory authority to be the Suez Canal Authority (SCZone)
and the expansion of the economic zone area to be 460 km2 located in 3 main cities (Sokhna, Ismalia and Port
Said),
The Main Development Company (MDC) is an Egyptian shareholding company founded in 2006 established
primarily to act as the development arm and the sole sponsor for the development activities in Suez Canal
Economic Zone (SCZone, 20km2).
The main role of the MDC is to plan, design, finance, construct, operate, manage and maintain the
infrastructure, utilities, networks and services, by itself or through specialized industrial developers, in
addition to promoting the Zone and attracting investments,. The Zone enjoys many competitive advantages
which enables it to attract potential investments in medium and light industries as well as logistics services.
