Start Microsoft Word from the icon or shortcut for the application. This is usually accessible from the Start Button. Then go to Programs, then Microsoft Word.

This will open MS Word with the Menu and Tool Bar shown in the picture below.

Menu Bar (1st Row)

A single click on an item will cause a drop-down box to appear. A single click on one of the items in the drop-down box produces a

dialog box. Filling in the required information will complete the task.  

Tool Bar (2nd Row)

Clicking on a feature button in the Tool Bar provides instant access to a feature, such as printing. A click on a task button immediately performs such tasks as cut & paste, adding tables, columns, etc.

Changing the View Settings (from Menu Bar) The Word display can be adjusted to suit your particular requirements

by selecting the appropriate options from the View menu.  To choose one of the various views from the view menu:

1. From the Menu Bar choose File then select Save As, or from the keyboard press the F12 key

2. Select the drive and directory where you want the document saved . Here at QOA if you have a sign on to the Network you will have your own folder on QOASCHOOL. Do not use My Documents I clear that regularly. Please watch what you are doing.

3. In the File Name field type the new document name. XXXfilename. Remember no spaces, no special characters.

4. Click Save

1. Choose Help from the Menu Bar and click Contents and Index. Under the Contents tab double click a book to display the help topics for that category. You can also click any other tab, such as Index or Find, to get help on your desired topics.

2. Online help is available through Microsoft Web Site. Choose Help from the Menu Bar and click Microsoft on the Web. Click on any topic to view the details.

To view help on WordPerfect topics, such as how to do in Word what you are used to doing in WordPerfect, choose WordPerfect Help ... under Help from the Menu Bar. Double click on the topics to view the details for each topic.

1. Choose File from the main Menu Bar, then select Open, or press Ctrl+O from the Keyboard or click the Open icon from the standard Toolbar. The Open window will appear.

2. Select the drive and directory where the document is located. Select the name of the document you want to open from the

File Name list and click Open (or double-click on the document

name). OR1. From the desktop select Network Neighborhood2. Select SRV3. Select your folder4. Select the file

Accessing the Font dialog box for character formatting:

1. Choose Format from the main menu, then select Font.

2. Select the Font tab to display the font options and make the appropriate selection from the following choices:

o Font Style o Size o Underline o Color o Effects You see what your text will

look like in the Preview window. 

Click OK

To check the spelling in a document:

From the main Menu Bar choose Tools, then Spelling

or press the F7 key. 

1. Select Ignore to skip the word, or Ignore All to skip all further occurrences of the word.

2. If a word is spelled incorrectly, find the correct spelling in the Suggestions box and then click on Change, or on Change All to change all further occurrences of the word.

3. If a word is spelled correctly and you would like the dictionary to recognize the spelling of this word later, select Add.

Word also checks for misspelled words as you type in the text. If a word appears with a wavy red line under it you can correct the spelling without starting the entire Spell Checker. To check for suggested spellings of a word simply right click on the word to invoke a menu with possible options and click on the

appropriate spelling.

Choose File, then select Print or, if you do not need to make any changes to the default print settings, just click the Print button on the standard toolbar.

Here at Queen of Angels please make sure you are signed onto the network correctly so the network printer will be available.

From the Menu Bar click on File then Exit, or on the keyboard press Alt+F4, or click the Close button (X) in the top right corner of the screen.

When you done with your computer session in the Computer Lab, log off from your lab account. Go to Start Button, click Log off Remember you are responsible for any network activity (including printing) from any lab pc which logged in with your userid and password.
