Dear Sir,

This has reference to the captioned subject and cited references. We would:like toinform that in recent past, the R&D division of Tata Steel Limited (TSL) hasinvented a process to produce Graphene in Mass scale from Shellac. Shellac is anorganic resin secreted from an insect Laccifer lacca. These insects are bred on treesof some restricted tress only. Owing to the climatic and habitat conditions required,Shellac farming is restricted to few areas in the world and India is a leadingmanufacturer of Shellac. Tata Steels invention makes use of Shellac as a carbonsource for synthesis of Graphene. The Patent number W02015/040630A1published on 26/03/2015 details the Tata Steels invention of making Graphenestarting from Shellac as the RawMaterial.

As the Graphene products developed from this method have shown some promisingproperties which can be utilized in either development of new products orimproving the performance of existing products, Tata Steel has now proposed tosetup a production facility for Graphene manufacturing which will include scalingup of the lab process to Industrial process.

The above proposed project would not require any additional land as the aboveproposed project location is inside the existing premises of Tata Steel works atJamshedpur. The approx. capital project cost would be { 8.25 crores for the aboveproposed project.

In view of the above, we are applying for Environmental Clearance (EC) inprescribed online form at MoEF Web Portal and submitting pre-feasibility reportand other relevant enclosures as per EIA Notification 2006 and 2009 underEnvironment Protection Rule, 1986.

We request you to kindly consider our application to be included in earliest .ExpertAppraisal Committee meeting to grant us the Terms of References (ToR),at theearliest.
