LASSMATE SPELLBEE BY TIMES OF INDIA

In order to enhance spelling skills Spell Bee competition was organized on 24 Jan 2017 by

Mrs Kshitija of “Classmate”. Nearly 560 students from class VI to VIII participated in this competition. The

question paper was objective type with OMR sheet where they had to mark the right answer and the

duration of the test was 30 Min. The objective of this competition was to enhance students‟ spelling skills.

All the students participated with full enthusiasm and interest. The students who have qualified in the first

round have appeared for the online 2nd round held on 20th Feb 2017.

This competition was held in all major schools of the city.

ATHS WEEK(ARYABHATA WEEK CELEBRATION)

Mathematics is the knowledge with which God has written the universe” – Galileo.

The maths week was organized by the maths department from 23 Jan to 28 Jan 2017. The celebration of

Aryabhata week is an initiative for showcasing the analytical, scientific and logical approach. Students

participated in large number with spirited enthusiasm and enjoyed the stimulated exercise of the mind. The

main objective of celebrating maths week was to encourage young learners to get involved to dispel maths

phobia and create a love for the students to perceive the connections of mathematical concept with real

situations. The maths week was celebrated with the following activities: Special Assembly, mastermind

quiz, sudoko champion, and screening of maths week.

The resounding success of the celebration is the outcome of tireless efforts put in by the resource team

comprising of students and maths faculty and supported by the school management.

NTERNATIONAL ENGLISH OLYMPIAD

IEO was conducted on 31st Jan 2017 in library during zero period and first period for classes VI to XII. All the students participated with full interest.

OOK REVIEW On 23rd Jan 2017 the teachers and students of APS Birpur were asked to write down reviews of

books of their interest. The idea is designed to help teachers and students to become strong book reviewer, a reader who can read a book and then write a review designed to what the reading appetites of other book lovers.

ESSION

Students of XI science were given an opportunity to have a session with Mr Yograj Negi on 17

Feb 2017. He taught the students how to work seriously to attain success in life? He told them to

work hard and take even the smallest work seriously. He also taught them simple mental exercises

which they can do to increase concentration. Overall, the session was good and the students were

satisfied.

Principal Mrs Bindu Sharma addressed XII students and motivated them to gear up for the

upcoming board examination and to distress and be more focused towards their goal in life.

One to one interactive session was held for parents of class XII low performers with Principal and

senior coordinator.

Session was held by PTI and middle wing coordinator for girls as well as boys of class VI-VIII for

maintaining healthy relations.

XHIBITION

18 Feb 2017 was a red letter day for the APS Birpur family. The school organized an exhibition

entitled “Pratibimb” which showcased a plethora of talent that students possess. All the clubs functioning under CCA Department put up for display their projects and models along with activities conducted during the session 2016-17, exhibiting the logical, creative and imaginative aspects of the students. The Chief Guest for the day was Brig Vivek Lall, Sena Medal, Chairman of the school. He was welcomed

by the Principal Mrs Bindu Sharma, the Event Coordinator, Mrs Sarita Bararia alongwith the Asst Head

Boy, Sumit Tripathi and Asst. Head Girl Rohini Sharma. The Chairman accompanied by the Principal

visited the Multiple Intelligence centre‟s that had been put up based on different MI‟s. He conversed with

the students who diligently explained the different models and projects prepared by them. The chairman

expressed his happening on the efforts put in by the students for creating the working models and teachers

for guiding them.

He expressed a keen interest in the students efforts on creating their blogs as well as the entrepreneurs

club set up by the class XI Commerce Stream.

He was hopeful that such brilliant display of talent would help further in shaping the dream and aspirations of the APSians and give them confidence to make their place in this competitive world.

ODEL CLASS PRESENTATION (2016-17)

In view of giving a platform to each and every child of I-V to perform - “Model Class Presentation”

was organised by the Primary Wing of APS Birpur on 17th and 18thFeb 2017 in 5 slots with great festivity.

The programme aimed at bringing out the latent talent present in each and every student and at the same

time honing the existing talent. The uniqueness of the programme was 100% participation of primary

students. All the concerned class teachers and students selected thought provoking themes and prepared

the students accordingly thereby inculcating team work, belongingness, critical thinking and other 21st

Century life skills. The entire event was managed by the Junior APSians only- right from selection to

comparing thereby leading to confidence building.

All the parents were invited to witness their wards performance. Although it was not the school‟s annual

function, it came out to be a grand event in itself. Every Class gave their performances with grace and got a

big round of applause.

The school Chairman Brig. Vivek Lall, SM alongwith others dignitaries-Mrs. Sharmistha Ghosh ,Mrs Urmila

Rathi, Mrs. Rupashree Ghosh and Mrs. PinkiRana, Principal Tons Valley School attended the programme.

The programme started with „Saraswati Vandana‟ in a grand manner. The children mesmerized everyone

with their wonderful performances on Corruption, Save Girl child, Global Warming, English Communication,

Child Labour , Swachch Bharat, Use Swadeshi, Being Human, Gita Saar and Save Water. Parents-Thanks-

Giving-Song sensitized everybody. The Chief Guest as well as parents appreciated the hard work of the

students and efforts taken by teacher to train them. They acknowledged the exemplary role of the school in

shaping their wards future.

The Chief Guest Brig. Vivek Lall, SM addressed the gathering where he appreciated the programme and

encouraged the parents to be a part of their ward‟s success story. He asked for suggestions for further

upliftment of the school.

EPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY Special Assembly was conducted on 25th Jan 2017 by Vaidya House to mark the Republic day

Celebration. Patriotic songs were presented by middle and primary wing students. A patriotic hindi poem was recited by Sneha of class X D. Students of middle wing presented „Amazing facts on India‟. Mrs Sunita Negi presented teachers topic on Constitution of India. Sweets were distributed to all.

LAG HOISTING

APS Birpur celebrated the 69th Republic Day with all its solemnity and grandeur on 26th Jan 2017. The Principal Mrs Bindu Sharma, the teachers, Admin department and Group D employees saluted the National Flag and pledged themselves to uphold the honour and integrity, diversity and uniqueness of our country.

NOW YOUR ARMY MELA

Army Public School Birpur participated in the Opening Ceremony of „Know Your Army Mela‟ held on

28-29 January, 2017, at Mahindra Ground. The children enthralled everyone with their wonderful

performance-“Aarambh Hai Prachand”. Stall was set up to display scholastic and Co-scholastic

achievements, creative works, projects and models for visitors. They appreciated the hard work of the

students and motivation of teachers. Renowned schools of the city also visited APS, Birpur stall. All the

visitors gave their amazing feedback in feedback register. All APSians bore lots of appreciation, unique and

unforgettable experience.

ASANT PANCHAMI

Manekshaw House perfomed special assembly on 1 Feb 2017 to mark the celebration of

“Basant Panchami” for classes I-VIII. Assembly was organised under the guidance of House Advisor in which Saraswati Vandana was performed by primary wing students and speech was delivered by Ms Tanu of class VII B. Students and teachers along with Principal, Mrs Bindu Sharma offered prayers to Goddess Saraswati- the Goddess of Knowledge and wisdom.

PECIAL ASSEMBLY ON ELECTION

Looking into the fervor of Elections in the country, a special assembly was organized by “class XI Humanities students” on 14th Feb 2017 to spread awareness about the “Elections and the role of every Indian.” A short speech was given by Ms Avni and Ms Nishu of class XI D about Elections and its importance in a Democratic country. The students also performed a “street play‟ about the importance of vote. The aim of the assembly was to make the students aware, so that they insist their parents to cast their vote to deserving candidates.

AREWELL OF CLASS XII

Army Public School, Birpur arranged a farewell ceremony on 20th Feb 2017 in honour of the

outgoing students of class XII .The theme of the party was “Bon Voyage.” The day was a fiesta devoted to

the year spent together with friends and teachers to reminisce joyous moments. Class XII students were

welcomed and escorted by class XI students dressed in traditional dresses and by applying vermilion on

their forehead. Incredible dance performances were presented by class XI students and were well

applauded. The pulsating music rocked the ambience .Outgoing students also conveyed their feelings

through songs and speeches. The stage was set ablazed with a ramp walk and self introduction by Class

XII students Class XI students read out compliments while teachers gave a memento to each student. The

much awaited result of the ramp walk and modeling session was announced. Master Himanshu Bisht and

Ms Akansha Gurung were declared as the Master and Miss APS respectively. Master Resham Br Rana

was declared the Sports Person of the Year. The most popular person title was bagged by Ms Mamta

Mahar. Master Ravinder Singh was declared as the best dressed person of the eve and Master Himanshu

Bisht and Ms Anusha Gupta were declared as the all-rounder of the year.

Class XII students went nostalgic on watching a PPT presented by class XI students where all their happy

and fulfilled moments were captured. The function concluded with the speech and blessings by the

Principal Mrs Bindu Sharma and by cutting of the farewell cake by class XII students.

EPUBLIC DAY PARADE 2017

Two students of APS, Birpur attended RDC Camp 2017. They were selected for cultural and R

drill programme. They met all the cadets come from other states. They attended PM rally. During this

occasion, they take a home tea with Director General of NCC and also with President of India.

UTREACH PROGRAMME

UNNIYAN PROJECT On 11 February 2017 students of Outreach Programme again

visited Uniyyan Shiksha Kendra where they taught English and General Science to students of 6- 8th English and General Science. They interviewed the President and Teachers of Unniyan Shiksha Kendra as well. They also extended their invitation to the management, staff and students of Uniyyan Shiksha Kendra to witness the school‟s Open House Exhibition to be held on 18 Feb 2017.

(c) Simran Rathi - IX participated in National Indian Women Olympic Association Badminton

and stood 3rd in doubles category.

ARENT ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

2nd spell of POP was organized for the middle school parent‟s i.e for classes VI to VIII from 26 Jan

to 29 Jan 2017. The purpose of the program was to collaborate with the parents on issues relating to

Growing up Blues.

The parents were initially asked about the problems they were facing with their adolescent children. The

points that came up were as follows

Eating habits-demand for fast food

Stubbornness

Too much watching of TV

Spending a lot of time on mobile

Less of communication with parents

Getting more involved with friends

Lack of exercise

Aggressive

Spending a lot of time in the bathroom

All the above issues were tackled relating scientifically with the changes occurring in the body and

puberty growth. Along with the handling the growing teenager pertaining to disciplinary methods

was discussed. Parents were made aware of the advantages of being open in communication with

their teenagers. Methods of handling each issue were brainstormed. Parents were specifically made

aware of the negative effects of giving money to their children daily which may result in their children

falling in the trap of drug peddlars.

The parents were very happy and felt they had a lot of take always and were looking forward to

more such interactions.

EAR

During DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) day, each member of the school delves into reading

a book, newspaper, magazine and every stuff worth reading in order to promote good reading habits and

make it enjoyable.
