1. Purpose and Scope

Level switches (accessories for level indicators, BNA level meters, UTN) BGU are designed for use in

various industries for controlling of liquids’ level.

Level switches (accessories for level indicators, BNA level meters, UTN) BGU (hereinafter referred to as

BGU level switches) belong to explosion-proof equipment of group II according to GOST 31610.0-2014

(IEC 60079-0:2011) and are intended for use in hazardous areas of premises and external installations of

Class 1 for the execution of products with the type of protection "flameproof enclosure "d" and classes 0, 1

or 2 for execution of products with type of protection "intrinsically safe circuit of the level "ia", according to

the assigned explosion proof marking.

* The temperature class of instruments is determined by the ambient temperature and the

temperature of working medium (process) according to manufacturer's technical documentation.

3 Description Of Design And Means Of Ensuring Explosion Protection

3.1 Design description:

BGU level switches are proximity switches, set on level indicators, BNA and UTN series level

meters without immersion in controlled environment and serve for switching of connected control circuits.

The setting of the switches is carried out by means of a clamp or a T-shaped groove on a magnetic

indicator or on a pipe of a level indicator, a level meter.

The main components are the enclosure and hermetically sealed contacts (reed switches) built into it.

Reed switches are triggered when interacting with the magnetic field of a permanent float magnet of level

indicators, BNA series level meters or a magnetic level indicator system, UTN series level meters.

BGU level switches generate threshold levels in the bypass level indicators. They create a binary

signal that can be sent to an alarm or control device’s input located after the switches.

To save signals there are switches with two stable states.

3.2. Explosion protection of BGU level switches is provided by explosion protection of the type

"flameproof enclosure "d" according to GOST IEC 60079-1-2011, type of protection "intrinsically safe

circuit of the level "ia" according to GOST 31610.11-2014 (IEC 60079-11:2011) and their design in

accordance with the requirements of GOST 31610.0-2014 (IEC 60079-0:2011).

Explosion protection of BGU level switches of Exia performance is provided by the following factors:

- limitation of current, voltage, capacitance and inductance in electrical circuits up to intrinsically

safe values;

- limitation of energy in the circuit and its ingress protection to such an extent that the electric

discharge in the circuit or its heating can not ignite the environment;

- execution of the product design according to the requirements of regulatory documents that

establish requirements for explosion-proof equipment;

-products do not contain moving parts and mechanisms capable of friction, leading to an increase in

temperature of their surfaces above the permissible values;

-BGU level switches are tested to confirm the electrical strength of the insulation.

Explosion protection of BGU level switches of Exd performance is provided by the following

factors:

-electric parts are enclosed in a flameproof enclosure that withstands the explosion pressure and

excludes the transmission of the explosion into the surrounding explosive atmosphere;

- the strength of the flameproof enclosure, parameters of flameproof connections, characteristics of

the materials used comply with the requirements of GOST IEC 60079-1-2011.

Safe operation of the product can be ensured only during operation and maintenance according to the

requirements of the operating manual.

4. Labeling

The labeling applied to the level switches must include the following data:

- name of manufacturer or its registered trademark;

- designation of the type of product;

- serial number;

- date of manufacture;

- explosion proof mark;

- special explosion proof mark according to CU TR 012/2011;

- name of certification authority and the number of the certificate of conformity.

Product labeling may include additional information if it is

required by technical and regulatory documentation and which is relevant for their safe use.

5. Special Conditions For The Safe Use Of Equipment

The "X" mark in the explosion proof marking means that the following special operating conditions

must be observed:

5.1. The level switches must be operated in the ambient temperature range specified in the

operating documentation.

5.2. The temperature class of the level switches is determined by the ambient temperature

according to the manufacturer's technical documentation.

5.3. Installation, operation, maintenance of the level switches should be carried out according to

the manufacturer's instructions on its technical documentation;

5.4. If aluminum level switches are used to avoid the risk of ignition from sparks caused by friction or impact

of details, when installing and operating the products in question, it is not allowed to expose level switches to

friction or shock, which may cause sparking.

5.5. Painted surfaces of the level switches should only be wiped with a damp cloth to avoid the

risk of static stress accumulation on them.

5.6. The user must comply with the assigned operating life of the level switches, during which

the safety parameters of the explosion protection specified by the manufacturer in the operating

documentation are safeguarded.

6. The manufacturer can make changes in the design and technical documentation that confirms

the conformity of the products to the requirements of CU TR 012/2011, which affect the indicators of

explosion-proof level switches, only by agreement of the OSP "Techno-standard” LTD.
