Science forms the basis of all life; therefore, it

forms a very important part of the student's education.

Beginning in the ninth grade, general science is

studied, which forms the basis for the more complicated

sciences of biology, physics, and chemistry.

Algebra furnishes a background for all other mathe-

matics. After two years of algebra, a student may take

geometry, trigonometry, or advanced algebra.

NELLIE NEAL BALL

"Where thoughts serenely sweet express

How pure, how dear their dwelling place.""—Lord Byron

Whenever there's a job to be done, an errand to be

run, or just a few comforting words to brighten some-

one's mood, Nellie Ball can always be counted on to do

her best. During her four years of high school, Nellie has

reigned as Homecoming Queen and held many other

outstanding positions—too numerous to name. Being

friendly, sincere, co-operative, studious, and active,

she has been a real contribution to her class. Nellie will

be found doing her best in whatever field hercareer

may lead.

ASHLEY GLENN HARDISON

"Everywhere in life, the true question is not what we

gain, but what we do. '—Carlyle

Being level-headed, sincere, friendly, studious,

talkative, and active, it is no wonder that Ashley

Hardison was chosen an Outstanding Senior. As one of

the hardest workers in the senior class, Ashley has earned

his splendid grades with determination. Habitually

number one in grades, and at least that high in the

opinion of his classmates, he will be a great success

wherever he goes. His future plans include going to the

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study

business.

Senior Outstanding

SANDRA LYNN OWENS

"Come forth, and bring with you a heart

That watches and receives. ''—Wordsworth

Intelligent, exuberant, vivacious, friendly,

charming, attractive—all of these make up the image

of Sandra Owens. A versatile, active student, she has

served as an officer in several organizations and has been an energetic assistant in school projects and func- tions. Sandra hopes to continue her studies and pursue a Career in primary education.

Senior Outstanding

JAMES EDMOND PHELPS "Never idle a moment, but thrifty and thoughtful

of others. ''—Longfellow

Personality plus, that's Eddie Phelps. Students like

Eddie are hardto find. No matter how busy or how deeply

engrossed in thinking, he always finds time to be court-

eous, kind, and thoughtful of others. He is a quiet

person who leads by listening to others. His citizenship,

his neat appearance, his cheerfulness, and his friendly

manner are his trademarks.

and perpetuate a one hundred per cent Americanism; To preserve the memories and incidents of

our associations in the Great Wars; To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community,
