Projectile motion- The path an object travels through space.
I am Proving that Jack will not be able to make it clear across the cliff by launching himself into the air with the stick tied to him.
Projectile Motion
Captain Jack gets tied to a bamboo stick and he gets hunted and gets fruit thrown at him which ironically gets stuck to each end of the stick. He tires to escape by a catapulting launch with the top of the stick across the cliff.
Movie Explanation
Stick length- .09 m Mass weight- 185 lbs Time- 3.80 seconds Distance- .34 m Starting angle-40°
Estimates
D=Vxt 34m = Vx(3.8) Vx = VicosΘ 34m/3.8 8.95m/s = Vi (cos40°) Vx = 8.95 m/s Vi = 11.68 m/s (3600s)( 1min ) hr 1609m Vi = 26 mph Explanations: I first took the first equation which was distance = velocity x
time which gave me the distance that he was running. The second equation I simply plugged in the distance to the equation to find the speed that he was running and after multiplying anf dividing out the numbers that were found I got that Jack was running 26mph.
Calculations
What should have happened.....
Vx= 8.95m/s
*If he was running at 8.95m/s he would be going down when running off the cliff. He would drop a total of 47m, which is halfway down the cliff from where he originally landed.*
Top speed of an olympic sprinter- 2.31 m/s He was running 11.68 m/s He is going 5 times the speed of an olympic sprinter. In the calculations I found Jacks speed which was
26mph. After plugging the olympic runners speed in we got 5.17mph. That wouldd prove that Jack is running 5 times the speed of an olympic runner.
**** Vx = VicosΘ**** 2.31m/s = (3600)( 1 ) Vx = 5.17 mph hr 1609
Comparison
In conclusion Captain Jack will not be able to make it clear across the cliff because he will come too short of the other edge.
