PartiesWe will have three “special snacks” this year, a Christmas, Valentines, and end of year.Students are not allowed to bring birthday cupcakes. Birthdays are celebrated by announcing the child’s name over the intercom and the student gets a special prize.
Each student will start the day with a “clean slate”. If a rule is broken, the student will be given a warning. If
the rule is broken again, the student will receive a conduct mark. If a student receives 3 conduct marks in a week, the student will be written up in Chalkable, a new discipline tracking system. Depending on the severity of the behavior, a student may sit out during recess, receive silent lunch, P.E. or lunch detention. If a student gets written up 3 times, the student will be referred to the office for further disciplinary action.
Conduct sheets should be initialed nightly.
We love visitors! Please make sure you check in with the office though before you meet
your child in the cafeteria, as you must have a visitors pass.

Please refer to the 4th grade syllabus for all grading information. Each subject
weights grades differently. Please check your child’s red communication folder periodically for test papers. If
your child receives C, D, or F on a paper, that test will need to be signed
and returned the next day.
All homework will be assigned on Monday and will be due on Friday. Homework may
consist of the following:Read for 20 min. per nightMath problemsScience vocabularyStudying for tests
Homework is a review of what we are learning. It is not meant to consume your
entire night.
Your child should write down all homework assignments in his or her agenda pad.
Homework must be turned in the day it is due! Students should not wait until Thurs. to complete all homework. Remember, Begin
with the End in Mind. This means students should formulate a plan on Mon., to get all
homework and studying completed before Fri. Failure to turn in homework on the day it is due will result in the student staying in from
P.E. or recess to complete it, for partial credit.
Reading will consist of chapter books, as well as stories, poems, readers theater, etc. found in the Storytown book. All chapter books will be read aloud in class. Each student will have
his or her own book to follow along. There will be a test most Fridays, which will cover
comprehension, vocabulary, and a focus skill for the week. Students will be expected to
read for at least 20 min. each night.
We will be using GoMath curriculum. We will cover various math topics this year
including place value, multiplication, division, fractions, geometry, algebra.
You will receive a newsletter each week with more information. Feel free to ask
any questions throughout the year!
Language consists of grammar, word work/spelling, and writing. Students will have a word work/spelling test each week. This will count 10% of the overall grade. DOL (Daily Oral Language) tests will be given on
Fridays. This will count towards 60% of their grade. Finally, writing will count towards 30% of the overall
language grade.
Students will be learning the writing process. They will be writing narrative, opinion, explanatory, and informative pieces this year. Students will learn to write longer, more in depth pieces. We

We love art at MES! Students will go to art once a week. Ms. McClendon always has fun projects planned for
students. There will be plenty of opportunities for volunteering. We
have art shows and all sorts of things going on. If you’re interested in
volunteering, please be sure to stop by Ms. McClendon’s room!
Coach Murray and Coach Owens are ready to get you moving!
