Happy Independence Day!

To me, the 4th of July always means that Iowa sweet corn and tomatoes are just around the corner, as well as the summer being half over. This one is sure flying by! I hope you are all staying cool and drinking plenty of water, as you stay busy with all the Vintage Hills happenings!

Let's get ready to celebrate the 4th with some trivia!

Did you know...

John Hancock was the only member of the Continental Congress to formally sign the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776.

The Fourth of July was not declared a federal holiday until 1938, do any of you remember that? Approximately 150 million hot dogs are eaten on the 4th. Jenn is helping us to contribute to that number! The now American-celebrated song, Yankee Doodle, was originally written by officers of the British army to make fun of backwoods Americans.

Three United States presidents died on the Fourth of July: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe.

In one year, $600 million is spent on fireworks alone in the U.S.

One thing I do know, Vintage Hills is a very special community, and it's been a privilege to get to know all of you. Thank you for making me feel so welcome these past few months, and please continue to extend your hospitality to the many new residents that will be making this their new home!

June definitely had its ups and downs. We had our Father’s Day event, which was a blast! The entertainers that visited our community were great, as always, and we had all of our other fun activities, of course! Unfortunately, with all highs, come some lows as well.. Sadly, four of our residents passed away, all in a very short amount of time. We had our own Vintage Hills Celebration of Life to honor the lives of those four residents. Residents and staff joined together with the families of the four residents in our Theater to share pictures and stories. Amongst the tears and sadness were hearts full of love. We really are like a family here at Vintage Hills and you could feel all the love and admiration in the Theater that morning. We are so lucky to have the residents that we do living here and staff that love and care so much for those residents!

It’s time to find out what Jenn is whipping up for July! The loaded beans and ham in June were a huge hit, next up, chicken noodles over mashed potatoes! The resident choice meal each month continues to be a hit and July is sure to not disappoint! The resident choice meal for July will be served for lunch on Wednesday, July 17th. The menu will consist of chicken noodles over mashed potatoes, green beans with onions, watermelon, and mint chip ice cream for dessert! As usual, come hungry!

It can’t be guaranteed that July won’t have any sad moments but what can be promised is that July will be filled with more fun! Coming up this month is Independence Day, so of course we have some Fourth of July themed activities! We also have some entertainers returning to our community along with some new ones as well. Something else to look forward to in July is another out of community trip! On Thursday, July 11th we’ll be taking a trip to Crouse Café for lunch! Residents have been asking about Crouse’s for some time now, we’ve finally found the time to go! I’m excited to see what July brings, I hope you all are too!
