* Pavlos Kontides is a Cypriot sailor.[1] He became the first Cypriot athlete ever to win an Olympic medal for his country, by winning the silver medal at the2012 Summer Olympics in the Men's Laser class behind Tom Slingsby.[2] n the same year, he won Gold at the World Junior Championships and in 2009 he won two Silver Medals in World Cups and a Bronze in the Paneuropean Men's Championship.[3] Kontides was born in Limassol. He is a member of the Limassol Nautical Club and is currently trained by Jozo Jakovic.[4] He is studying ship science at the University of Southampton, and has taken a two-year break.[5][6]

* Eleni Artymata (Greek: Ελένη Αρτυματά; born May 16, 1986 in Paralimni) is a track and field sprint athlete, who competes internationally for Cyprus.[1]

* Biography[edit]

* Artymata represented Cyprus at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She competed at the 200 metres, where she reached the second round. She won two medals, a gold in the 200 m and a bronze in the 100 m at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara. She also won two gold at the 2005 Games of the Small States of Europe.

* At the 2009 World Athletics Championships, she reached the final of the 200 metres, where she finished 8th. She recorded her personal best in the 200 m of 22.64 seconds in the semi finals of the same event.[2]

* At the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona. Artymata finished sixth in the final, improving her own national record to 22.61.

* Later in 2010, at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, Artymata was one of the favourites for the 200 metres title. She was the fastest qualifier in the heats in 23.23. However, she was disqualified after winning her semi final in 23.15, for running out of her lane. The final was won by Cydonie Mothersill in 22.89.[3]

* In 2013, Artymata won her second Mediterranean Games 200 metres title in Mersin. She had previously won in Pescara in 2009.

* His personal best jump and Cypriot national record is 2.35 metres, achieved at the 2007 World Championships held in Osaka where he won the bronze medal. He became the first World Championships medalist from Cyprus.[1] In the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, he won the silver medal.

* Finished fourth with a (first try) clearance of 2.28 at the season-ending IAAF World Indoor Championships held at Doha, Qatar, on Sunday March 14, 2010: Russian Ivan Ukhov won with a jump of 2.36.

* His best jump, outdoors in 2010, came at Lausanne on July 8, when he took third place with a jump of 2.30.

* 2011 Outdoor Season[edit]

* Doha, 6 May: Ioannou began his outdoor season at the first Diamond League meet in Doha, Qatar, on Friday 6 May. He and American Jesse Williams set a new Meet Record of 2.33 (7' 8") when each cleared on their third attempts. After both failed at 2.35, Williams was the winner on the basis of his first jump clearance at 2.31.[2]

She has won countless gold medals and smashed handfuls of records in national and international games as well as winning 2 Gold medals, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze in 3 consecutive Paralympic Games. Due to her countless achievements she is known as the "Princess of the Pool".

* Karolina was the first (living) person to ever appear on a national Cypriot stamp in 2004. She has promoted the work of various EU initiatives throughout the years, currently holding the title of ambassador for the "Youth On The Move” initiative since 2010.

*Pyrros Dimas

* Dimas started the sport at 11 and competed at a junior's level at 14. At 18, in 1989, he became triple Champion of Albania for the 82.5 kg category and in 1990 he repeated himself.[3] While in Albania, he was coached by Zef Kovaci.

* In 1990 he was also accorded the title "Master of Sports" by the Albanian government and the title "European Master" by the European Weightlifting Federation.[3]

* He was part of the Albanian weightlifting team to which he made important contributions: In 1989 in the 62nd World Championship of Weightlifting Dimas ranked 12th in the World and helped Albania rank 13th in the world.).[3]

* In the 69th European Weightlifting Championship (held in Aalborg, Denmark May 1990), Dimas ranked 4th in Europe and Albania ranked 3rd (after 1st placed USSR and 2nd placed Bulgaria), and in the European Cup for nations (in Antalya, Turkey, December 1990) Dimas, Leonidas Sabanis and Fatmir Bushi helped Albania rank 2nd in Europe (after 1st placed Bulgaria).[3]
