“Not as man sees does God see, because man sees

the appearance but the Lord looks into the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7

How often do we invest our time, talent and treasure

in creating an appearance that does not matter at all

to God?

We strive to impress with our clothing, home, career,

possessions, car and other marks of distinction.

But none of these illusions of greatness will impress

God.

Instead, He will look into our hearts to see how

much we loved Him, how much we loved others and

how we showed that love by the way we used our

time, talents and treasure here on earth.

Parish Budget and Mass Schedule Meeting

Wednesday, April 9 at 7:00pm

Schneider Parish Center

We invite our parishioners to attend the Annual

Budget meeting on Wednesday, April 9 at 7:00pm

at the Schneider Parish Center.

Like many Catholic parishes, OLC faces the finan-

cial challenge of increasing administration costs

and decreasing Mass attendance and offertory col-

lections.

In addition, OLC has some unique issues of its own

administering three worship sites, and paying down

the debt on the Parish Center.

Overcoming these challenges is critical in order for

OLC to focus on its mission of fostering disciple-

ship among its parishioners.

The Finance Committee will present an overview of

the proposed 2014-15 budget, discuss how this

could affect the future Mass schedule, and seek

your guidance.

Make sure your voice is heard by attending this

important meeting!

DAVIDS DRIVE

The OLC parish will be partnering with David's

Drive 831 to assist them in their efforts in assisting

our local veterans. Dave and Joy Turner founded

David's Drive 831 in 2010 in memory of their son

David, to continue his interest and passion for serv-

ing our veterans.

Of his work at the Coatesville VA, David would

often say "I serve those who served for us". Among

the many services provided to veterans by David's

Drive, the collection of personal health and clothing

items has been a mainstay.

Fr. Eschbach has invited the Turners to speak at

each Mass on Palm Sunday to discuss how out par-

ish community can support their mission.

Page 6 - 098

“Prayer and fasting are good, but better than either

is almsgiving accompanied by righteousness ... It is

better to give alms than to store up gold; for alms-

giving saves one from death and expiates every sin.

Those who regularly give alms shall enjoy a full

life" (Tobit 12:8-9).

ALMSGIVING: In the past we have always

provided opportunities for almsgiving during Lent

by taking a Second Collection for Operation Rice

Bowl through which we have funded programs that

fed the hungry and provided for other human needs

of the poor. Since we have sworn off Second Col-

lections this year, we will be providing 5% of our

Offertory collection during Lent to fund these pro-

grams. Therefore, you are encouraged to increase

your Lenten Offertory by 5% as well to allow us to

fulfill this Gospel mandate to give alms, “through

which there is forgiveness of sin”.

Every man shall give as he is able, according to the

blessing of the LORD your God which He has given

you." —Deuteronomy 16:17

Following God in any area of your life brings

change. When you begin to handle your money the

way God outlines in more than 800 Scriptures,

you'll be on your way to changing your family tree

forever.

Dumping debt and saving toward wealth will do

that. But here's something we need to keep in mind.

There's no room for selfishness in a heart full of

gratitude!

Giving is an expression that flows out of a grateful

heart. It's honoring God with what He's blessed us

with. It's displaying the love of Jesus, plain and

simple.

Remember His response when James and John

asked to be seated next to Him in heaven?

LENTEN REFLECTIONS

Give yourself to God

Commit to spend five minutes a day with God.

Keep a Lenten prayer journal.

Say a daily Rosary.

Attend weekday Mass.

Make the Stations of the Cross on Fridays.

Take time to read Scriptures of each day’s Mass.

Share the daily readings at dinner.

Keep a crucifix in a prominent place as a constant

reminder of the season.

Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Sit in silence for five minutes every day.

Memorize your favorite Scripture passages.

Take on a Novena or devotional.

Find time in your weekly schedule for extra prayer-

perhaps the Angelus at noon.

Read a spiritual book or Church history.

Research the life of your favorite saint.

Ask God each day for the graces you lack.

Spend time daily thanking God for His Son.

“If today you hear God’s voice, harden not your

hearts.” (Psalm 95:7-8)

Sin makes it hard to hear God’s voice in our lives.

Ask forgiveness from God for the times you have

ignored his voice and allow Christ to soften your

heart.

“Whatever you did for one of these least brothers and

sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)

Pray to be able to better recognize Jesus in those peo-

ple who are poor and suffering.
